I can't let you go into Stealth mode, Dan (in Off-topic)

AdminNightStrike September 7 2010 11:29 PM EDT

So I'm finally getting around to watching 2001 A Spac.... er, I mean "Stealth".

AdminNightStrike September 7 2010 11:49 PM EDT

Looks like there's a little War Games mixed in. I'm waiting for the Tic Tac Toe scene.

Wraithlin September 7 2010 11:50 PM EDT

Everyone, even a super-computer, knows that if you can't win tic-tac-toe then you can't win thermo-nuclear war.

Then we need super computers in the white house. Vote SkycanCthulhuGoatDevil '12!

I liked Stealth. Pretty amusing movie.

AdminNightStrike September 8 2010 12:38 AM EDT

Yeah, I have to admit that despite the rehashed plot and way too predictable events, it is entertaining. I can't help but feel excitement at the typical American heroism in the movie. Plus, as Gun pointed out in chat, the soundtrack is stellar.

Plus, as Gun pointed out in chat, the soundtrack is stellar.

So they even copied that from Kubrick. ;)

AdminNightStrike September 8 2010 2:52 AM EDT

Actually, it does contain a lot of musical similarities to Clockwork.

AdminNightStrike September 8 2010 2:57 AM EDT

So basically, Space Oddessy War Games Top Gun Clockwork Orange Stealth was a pretty good and totally original film :)

Lochnivar September 8 2010 3:05 AM EDT

You know, being smart enough to copy good material is really only 1 step removed from being smart enough to think up good original material.

AdminNightStrike September 8 2010 3:06 AM EDT

And thus the size of the step is the measure of the man.

Wraithlin September 8 2010 3:27 AM EDT

If you see a movie and you liked it, but think you can do a better job with the idea, should you not try?

Improvement is always a good thing.

And failure to improve something is also a perfectly natural thing to happen too.

Lochnivar September 8 2010 3:37 AM EDT

I assume that means that you think, if he was born today, Charles Darwin would be a film maker?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 8 2010 7:26 AM EDT

Stealth was bad.

I nearly fell asleep watching it.

Demigod September 8 2010 9:14 AM EDT

I know nothing about this movie, but I can imagine ripping of Space Odyssey, Top Gun, and War Games for a futuristic fighter jet movie... but how did they work in A Clockwork Orange?

Fighter Pilot #1: "That was a great mission, Tom. Let's celebrate by beating up an old man and fiddling his wife while he watches."

Fighter Pilot #2: "Jolly good idea!"

QBOddBird September 8 2010 9:16 AM EDT

/applies for the role of Fighter Pilot #1

Unappreciated Misnomer September 8 2010 9:17 AM EDT

Macross the movie as better than Stealth for having A.I planes dominating. Which both would fall short of Kubricks 2001. I thought Event Horizon was the closer stab at 2001 than Stealth with the whole craziness in space.

Now I'm wondering if a 2001 remake today would do justice.

AdminNightStrike September 8 2010 9:24 AM EDT

Dude, the thing had a glowing red light that they focused on to show that it was thinking something sinister. How much more 2001 can you get?

As for Clockwork, because of the soundtrack that tried to mix classical orchestra with what's new today (in this case, techno club music.)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 8 2010 9:29 AM EDT

But, but K.I.T.T. was good!
