characters (in General)

Ancient Anubis October 22 2010 7:27 AM EDT

i reckon the characters we have should be nontransferable and should each generate there own 160 ba however they can't attack any of your own characters or characters owned by by players in your clan. Just putting it out there be nice to be able to play say two teams start an ncb while keeping the old team however u would also have to remove tattoo transferability so characters and tats become isolated to the user

Unappreciated Misnomer October 22 2010 7:51 AM EDT

this is like lock down in jail. how could someone like Zenai ever organize such a feat to raise his tatttoo so much. why build more walls when we should be building more bridges between players.

Kefeck [Demonic Serenity] October 22 2010 7:52 AM EDT

I never would of had to multi if this was put in lol! ;D...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 22 2010 7:58 AM EDT

To be successful, you would then have to run 5 teams, all performing at 100%, to funnel all the cash/items dropped to your 'main' team.

You would have to do this, as others would be doing it, and would be leap years ahead of you if you didn't.

Guardian October 22 2010 9:58 AM EDT

woot???
i really dont like this idea. We are free and should stay like this, withut usd we already there are a lot of differente strategies and thats the fun of the game.

This locks would make it boring and prolly some people would quit

AdminNightStrike October 22 2010 10:34 AM EDT

I offered something similar to Jon a while ago, and he made the same point that GL just made.

Ancient Anubis October 22 2010 7:40 PM EDT

well cash would be restricted to thecharacters selling and buying cbd would be obsolete and that should appease all those people that hate usd involvement in the game.

Solare October 22 2010 7:41 PM EDT

Good idea, but also decrease the money earned by the amount of characters you own. This would prevent abusing the system to make money.

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] October 22 2010 7:44 PM EDT

It would still be used to make more money and also make tattoos always run at MTL. I think it is more trouble than it is worth. I think a far better thing to do would be to flesh out the tournament system a lot more and bring it to the point where more than 1 can be run and then allow for players themselves to host tournaments. This would allow for more play involvement without any of the fuss of tattoo power leveling and making extra money.

Ancient Anubis October 22 2010 7:53 PM EDT

how bout a second server i've played a few games were u have the choice of a few servers. WE have our current one, one that resets every month and maybe one that resets at the end of each year?

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] October 22 2010 7:57 PM EDT

An upgraded Tournament system would be able to function as doing that plus far far far more.

AdminNightStrike October 23 2010 12:23 AM EDT

I don't mind updating the t-system. I've done a lot to it already. But do people really play tournaments? How many join? Maybe 10?

Player hosting tournaments is out. There's too much involved with that. There's no stopping Slayer from picking more people to help him, though. We can always add more tournament admins. Right now, it's just Shade, Ranger, and novice.

The ability to run more than one hinges on the number of people that actively play. Give me a change that increases that, and I'll implement it right away.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 23 2010 2:55 AM EDT

Make a second, always running Tournament, and I'm sure you'll see many more people playing it.

It's the no transfer Sandbox some people have always wanted.

As far as I knew, the only sticking point to making it was the ability to run multiple tournaments side by side. If that isn't an issue, let's do it now! ;)

AdminNightStrike October 23 2010 8:34 AM EDT

Well, the system is hard coded in a lot of places to assume only 1 active tournament. So that would need to change, and that's non-trivial. But it's surely possible and practical.

Are you saying that if there was a different type of tournament that ran for, say, multiple months, that more than the same handful of people would join and play?

AdminNightStrike October 23 2010 8:35 AM EDT

NB: Please qualify that with actual names of people that will commit to using the feature.

AdminTal Destra October 23 2010 8:39 AM EDT

I would definitely use the sandbox tourney feature

Phoenix [The Forgehood] October 23 2010 9:16 AM EDT

the sandbox feature'd be good with NCB idea testing :)

horseguy001 [Blender 2021] October 23 2010 9:18 AM EDT

Not only that, NUBs could start in the Sandbox and create a character in the regular game with a full NUB bonus whenever they are ready.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 23 2010 11:07 AM EDT

I would stop playing regular CB and only play the perm Tournament sandbox one. Assuming it's not set up to reset at all.

Sute was in favour of this, maybe it would pursuade him to come back. There were also other vocal supporters of it.

Maybe a poll would be the best way to gather support for this?

AdminNemesia [Demonic Serenity] October 23 2010 11:26 AM EDT

A different perma tourney would be a great way to setup a newer better tutorial that doesn't shove people into their nub off of the very very start.

QBOddBird October 23 2010 11:29 AM EDT

Even if it was set up to reset annually or something, I would be super interested in perma tourney. No transfers is the way of the FUTURE!

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] October 23 2010 11:30 AM EDT

ten players is actually a large percentage of our active player base isn't it?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 23 2010 11:32 AM EDT

Off the top of my head, a perm Tournament would instantly solve these issues;

Hording 1600 BA and starting at Wacky XP time.

USD.

I would actually be able to build a Tank, and be able to compete with the NW of other tanks.

What would be even more awesome would be if (if the bonuses aren't changed...) the NCB was scrapped, and every perm tournament character created was created as a NUB. This would solve the issues of creating a T character late in the tournaments life (givein you the potential to catch up with XP and NW) and doesn't have any of the flaws of the NUB (can't sell out, can't fund other teams) and would mean we could relegate the stupid NCB to the bin.

It would be *AWESOME* for CB.

And of course, those who love the USD influenced normal version could still play that, and not have any part of thier current game play impacted by the change.

Plus, folk could play both, if they really had spare time, and the want to burn multiple sets of BA.

There are no downsides to this, the only problem is coding the game to accept a second (and ongoing) Tournament.

I'd even go so far as to auction off all my gear for USD, in an effort to fund the change.

I'm deadly serious about the last part.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 23 2010 11:34 AM EDT

Taking our current base as 150, then about 6-7% ;)

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] October 23 2010 11:45 AM EDT

the 150 isn't active. that is a poll i would love to see, how many people log on just to chat or post.

i know ranger and sut do so occasionally but there are others as well.

i would put the number at about ten percent of our active player base taking part in tournaments. i think that is a healthy percentage. if we were back up to 500 players then fifty in tournaments would seem different.

the point i was making is that participation in tournaments sucks because our population in general sucks! improve retention and both are improved. this idea, especially if used for the tutorial as well as an alternate world, may just improve retention and therefore saying that there aren't enough people interested in tournaments to implement this might be the wrong way of looking at the issue.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] October 23 2010 11:45 AM EDT

i would also love to play a perma world with no transfers and would likely run both characters concurrently.

AdminNightStrike October 23 2010 12:26 PM EDT

I'd even go so far as to auction off all my gear for USD, in an effort to fund the change.

I'd rather you just commit to finding 30 new players that stay and remain active than give me a few hundred dollars. The money will come as a consequence of that longer term investment.

Fishead October 23 2010 1:39 PM EDT

So... What happens when everyone spends all of their time in the new "permatourney" instead of playing the regular CB? CB2 dies a little more and we get CB3?

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] October 23 2010 1:42 PM EDT

if we get new players through better retention then who cares what happens? i would guess that both populations would grow if that were the case.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 23 2010 2:00 PM EDT

If everyone spends allthie time in the tournament, wouldn't that show that;s the style of game everyone wanted to play? No need for CB3, we'd all be laying CB2 still.

Would it be a problem?

(Not that I think that's what would happen in any case...)

Fishead October 23 2010 2:41 PM EDT

OK, not "everyone", that's not going to happen, but as`is brought up time and again, our player base is not growing and anything that takes away from it hurts the game.

In a`recent post, some mentioned that it is difficult to burn all of your BA to stay competitive (while others want more). I see a smaller base in regular CB and not enough people in the new tourney game. I have the time to play both, but not everyone does.

There is the possibility that it will bring more players to the game. If done well and promoted well, that can definitely happen, but we still need new players to stay and if they do, compete in both aspects of the game, which brings us to another popular topic of player retention. Maybe it will help. Maybe.

I'd love for some form of AA's idea or the tourney tangent to happen. I don't want to sound negative, but GL's post got me thinking.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] October 23 2010 4:34 PM EDT

I see no reason to make another NCB, now I've finally finished one (Goal down). I can't and won't ever be able to compete with the NW invested in the top teams.

At the moment, I'm just sitting here waiting for any updates to the game.

This Tournamet would get me playing again. There are players that have left, that hopefully this would attract back. And to be honest it doesn't really matter if the majority of the CB normal players moved over to the Tournament, as long as those invested in the top tier of characters stay (which I'm assuming they would, having invested so much in thier teams), they'll still get to play, facing the same teams they always do.

So nothing will change.

Players like me will never get high enough to join the tops ranks, so whether I/we stay or go will have no effect on CB2 normal gameplay.

That might sound defeatist, but it's the truth. My 6 month NCB run had no effect on the established players, and whether I stay or go won't matter. And I seriously doubt I'm the only player who this would apply to...
