Looking for a decent MMO.. (in Off-topic)

Looking for a decent MMO to pass the time. The specs need to be pretty low since my laptop isn't that great. I was playing Dungeons and dragons online for awhile but I just couldn't really get into it. So yeah list some free MMO's and if I have some time I'll give them a shot.

What ARE the specs on your laptop ?

Also, it's not like you can really play any MMO without paying... I mean, yes, some are "free to play", but to do anything worthwhile doing you'll have to spend some money on it, and for most of the "F2P" ones the average player ends up paying more than for a subscription-based MMO anyway.

If you couldn't get into Dungeons and Dragons online, I can only assume you won't be liking Lord of the Rings online much either (it went F2P recently).
Guild Wars is not exactly free, but if somebody you know that no longer actively plays would share his login with you, you could try it out anyway (the only payment is for game or expansion purchase, no subscription).

Me, I only play EVE-Online, but that's not exactly free... but you can make as many free trials you like, and you can end up in a situation where you could be paying with in-game currency (depends how good you are and how much effort you put in).
It's pretty cutthroat though (there is no "PvE server" nor any consensual PvP, you can be killed at any time anywhere, even in the most secure areas if the attacker is willing to "pay the price" for it), and it has a legendary (for its difficulty) learning curve.
Not exactly a game for everybody, most end up either adoring it (to the point that nothing else seems even adequate in comparison) or hating it with a vengeance (most people that are used to "family-friendly" MMOs).

There are plenty of almost-MMOs out there though (as in, browser-based), but I'm not sure if you'd even consider some of those.

i disagree with sickone to a certain extent. it likely depends upon how much time you have to play from what i have seen with the ones that have gone free. if you are playing over 20 hours a week, then you will likely need more content but if you are a casual player and just play for an hour or two a night then you may never need to pay more.

other than ddo, the free ones i have tried that seem promising are lotro and everquest 2. champions online is going free but it will be q1 2011 before that hits. if it does well and turbine takes star trek online in the same direction it will be one to try as well.

You have to give us a little more info than that... namely what type of genres you're into. Like fantasy, sci-fi, FPS, etc.... There are hundreds, if not thousands of MMOs out there.

Just to throw my two cents in, I'll suggest Uncharted Waters Online. It was just released in October, but has been in Japan/China for years so the graphics aren't very demanding. It's completely free to play, although there is the option to buy points to use on special items that do random things like give a slight speed boost or exp boost for a while.

The game is a very deep naval adventure/warfare/trading rpg. Just to give warning it is a more slowly paced game, where you will spend large amounts of time sailing between ports of the world. However, the depth is amazing and you truly have complete control over what you do. The beginning tutorial is a little bit long too, but does a great job of explaining things.

Hope you give it a try! Cylo and I are both on there, would love to see you around!
