We discuss movies. (in Off-topic)

Dear CB: Please suggest me a movie or two that I ought to watch. I have tomorrow off from work and I just want to relax and watch a good movie, I'm thinking.

Links to IMDB along with recommended movies = a good thing.

I just met someone last night who had never seen "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil". I was shocked and appalled.

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] November 21 2010 1:01 PM EST

WARNING: Never ever watch these movies, I'm ashamed to say I have.

What kind of movies do you like? Do you want something light and relaxing, comedic, or something that will make you think? I can recommend more, but we'll start with:

Triplets of Belleville- if you haven't seen this, i recommend it VERY highly.

A Clockwork Orange- some people don't like Kubrick, but I loved this movie. You may have seen it already though.

I'd also recommend any of those Christopher Guest mockumentaries, like This Is Spinal Tap (i'm sure you've seen that one), Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, etc. Best in Show was my favorite in that vein.

With more info on what you've seen/what you want to see, I could recommend more.

Another vote for triplets... OB would be singing for days

QBOddBird November 21 2010 3:06 PM EST

QBnovice - go sharks

No novice, movies I DO want to see! ;P

Nehemiah

I've seen both movies, but advertising your religious views in my thread turns me away from your belief system. I do not want to become an intrusive walking advertisement, and if that is what the religion entails, I believe I'll pass.

Jesus Christ really does heal and save

I like my scars 'cuz they make for good stories, and I saved 3 blocks ago, I'll reload from there if I die

Do you want something light and relaxing, comedic, or something that will make you think?

Yes and yes. I like good philosophical/thinky movies. They are interesting. But I also like a good comedy for relaxation...I don't like actors who are the same person in every film, though, so count out Will Farrell/Jack Black/Michael Cera etc

I haven't seen Triplets of Belleville, so that's the one I'm leaning toward given your advice so far. :)

Watch it. You'll love it. It's consistently the first movie I recommend to anyone who ever asks, "I want to watch a movie, what should I watch?" Because it's often one people haven't seen and it's one of my absolute favorite movies.

Admindudemus [jabberwocky] November 21 2010 3:42 PM EST

if you have never seen it:

Wow, I watched that movie a long time ago and could never remember the name until now, thanks dudemus!

AdminG Beee November 21 2010 4:04 PM EST

My most recent enjoyable movie was In Bruges.

I took the kids to see the latest HP movie last night. Phew, only one more to go...

{cb1}dyno November 21 2010 4:12 PM EST

The Life of David Gale - one of my favorite movies a lot of people haven't seen. Lotta head-fakes in it!

QBPit Spawn [Abyssal Specters] November 21 2010 5:19 PM EST

Dead Poets Society

Renaissance Man

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] November 21 2010 5:30 PM EST

Seconding In Bruges.

Also;

Ghost Dog, Way of the Samurai
13th Warrior
Iron Man
Zombieland
Kick (backside)

I'm sure there's more, I just can't think of them! :P

Demigod November 21 2010 5:58 PM EST

I have to toss in Zombieland. It's mindless (ha!), it's funny, and it's well made. It's in the same vein as Shaun of the Dead, which is also a must-see.

Demigod November 21 2010 5:58 PM EST

And now I see that GL already posted it. Even more reason to see Zombieland.

Messbrutal November 21 2010 6:10 PM EST

The prestige

A Lesser AR of 15 [Red Permanent Assurance] November 21 2010 7:55 PM EST

Zombieland is overrated. Here's a fine zombie film from Peter Zackson.

The Prestige
Zombieland

ResistanZ2 [The Knighthood] November 22 2010 3:16 AM EST

Gran Torino and Zombieland.
