The article is a tedious read, but skip to the second to last page.

And the winner is...

My thoughts: they put a lot of weight behind performance over standards, and standards support is key while performance differences are starting to become negligible with the latest generation of browsers. They also didn't take customization and extensibility into account enough in my opinion.

And if you think about it, there's no reason for IE to NOT be fastest on Windows; it has lots of pieces of it baked into the OS, and they aren't building and optimizing builds for different platforms like every other browser tested, so they can focus on Windows performance solely.

IE9 is without a doubt much better than prior versions though, too bad it's not for XP because a very depressing number of users are still using IE6.

can you add on an ad-blocker to ie9? that is about my only criteria for the best browser these days.

There's not a single free extension like in other browsers, but they have a way to block domain names so you have to load a big text file of ad-related domain names to block them. Those are easy to find however.

There appears to be an AdBlock extension, but it's only free for 200 blocks a day or something, which you'll burn through quite fast.
