Where are you GentlemanLoser? (in General)
I've just noticed my January 1st 2005 character 'GentlemanLoser' has disappeared.
Unless I traded him away with the rest of my guys to TP. :/
He also seems to have taken all my T-Shirts with him as well. Well, apart form the latest one I recently got.
I am looking around, and I can't find them, any idea where they might be?
I tried the back of the sofa, but no joy. :(
Usually, when stuff like this happens, my wife has decided to tidy up. She's out at a footie match tonight, so I can't grill her on it! Yet. ;)
I'm looking through the chars on TP for it now...
i doubt it will be found, i specified that as an opponent and hit inspect to no avail.
I don't think I'd be able to trade him away (and I'm sure I wouldn't have wanted to) as if he had my T-Shirts, you couldn't move them.
Just one of those Characters eaten by the nebulous character eater. ;)
Oh well. Good thing I never liked 4 minion teams, I'd never be able to give them all T-Shirts now! ;)
Any admin could have moved them accidentally however... any idea what the MPR of the char was?
Zero.
Pretty sure he was a blank character.
maybe a threshold was met and we will see retired characters disappear?

Nah I had both of them. ;)
(To be honest, I'm not sure if GL was created on the 1st any more, but I had him side by side with Talhearn for a while)
Still doesn't solve the mystery of my missing T-Shirts! :P
I can solve that quickly... plenty of extras on TP
This is definitely a case of the deleting chars!!!!
Well if he was a blank character that was retired then he would have been deleted after several months.
I still have Talhearn, my other Jan 1st Character, who's also empty and retired.
He doesn't seem to have been eaten, yet.
Anyway, I didn't think it was a design to delete characters, but rather more of an unfound bug in the system, where characters just disappear.
No, Jon has stated in old posts that I found when I was researching, and then NS again more recently, this was intended by design. Chars are intended to be deleted if their MPR and NW is low enough and they are retired. I don't remember what the exact numbers were, or what the time or trigger was for the deletion, but it's definitely there by design.

When this popped up a week or two ago, the assumption was that it should only occur with very low MPR characters.
I'm sure if it's just T-shirts, there's some way they could get them back to you :) It's not like it gives you an advantage, and we definitely know you've been around for them.
:P
Maybe I'll ask for them if I start fighting again, or want a 4 minion team. ;)
I'm not overly worried about their loss, but the loss of a Jan 1st character nags at my OCD. ;)
I'd love to be able to dust one off (say if we got a RB!) and level a team that was created on the first day.
I'd really hate for Talhearn to be eaten by the mysterious retired character deletion process! ;)
Yeah, that's why I asked about it the other day. I want to retire some chars with some stuff on them, and some money for the tournament, but I don't want them to be deleted with all the stuff on it. B/c while there are a lot of items, it's very little NW.
When I read the title of this thread I thought you were having an metaphysical existential problem, haha.
CB purges retired parties that fall into two categories:
1) retired a month, power < 1000, NW < 1000
2) retired two months, power < 50k, NW < 100k
with lots of checks against things like clam membership, or outstanding auctions / rentals, etc.
That second NW req should be lowered or initial price of rares should increase
Does the NW include money on the char, I'm hoping it does.
we have two stats, nw and richest so i am thinking that nw doesn't include cash on hand.
Yeah, typical NW doesn't include that, but it seems ludicrous to delete a char with millions of dollars on it, and since Jon did this intentionally, it's not something I figured he'd over look.

with lots of checks against things like clam membership,
I wish I was in a clam right now!
Giggity.
How can a retired char be in a clan?
My retired Character Talhearn is blank, with zero NW and zero Power, but was retired in 2010.
Why hasn't he been deleted?
(And really, I think this info should be somewhere visible, to stop people losing items and characters when they don't expect to!)
Random thought.
Could the NCB BA cost be scrapped. Er, I mean could we unlink this from other active characters you have?
Instead of retiring old bank characters, the only other option is to fire all the minions.
Which in the eventuality you do retire them, means they will always be auto deleted from having a zero MPR.
Or, instead of auto deletion by size, could it be based on character age? Those retired under a month get deleted first, then those under say 6 months. Any older characters never get retired, regardless of MPR/NW?
Presumably teams with no minions don't register as 0 PR, they register as a null value for PR. So, the sql query skips them as a side effect.
How can a retired char be in a clan?
Stranger things have happened.
So, does the current system take into account money on the character as well NS... b/c that could be a huge problem.
NS, my GentlemanLoser character hadn't had any minions for years, but still got presumably deleted.
I don't think this auto deletion is quite as reliable as expected. ;)

I'm generally sober these days but I hope I wasn't drunk and hit something by accident when banning your account a while back ;)
is generally sober a higher rank than majorly sober?

It certainly sounds better than privately sober.
