Checkers, y u so hard? (in Off-topic)

Okay, so, let me start off by saying that I'm not an idiot. But it seems that I just can't do well at Checkers. I'm good at games like Risk, Chess, and Go!, but I never ever ever win at Checkers. I have a similar problem with video games. I can beat Zelda games with no walk-throughs, the Portal series, and Battletoads, but I've never beaten a Kirby game. Anyone have any idea on why?

you can beat battletoads but not kirby? can you beat super mario3?

anyways skip checkers and go play chess or axis and allies

axis and allies

Yes, but make sure you have a year of free time, and tell your gf to leave town for a while.

our brains tend to work in very specific and different ways for each of us. in your life you will find that the way certain games work mean they are very easy for you to formulate strategies while others are virtually impossible for you to do well at.

the most important thing to remember is to marry someone whose ass you can kick at most games, then you can feel good about yourself most of the time either by whupping up on them or letting them win so that they stay interested! ; )

thats not true, my friends and I picked it up and we dont play very often because we are all busy so we play on a holiday, but most games last about 8-10hours. there are youtube videos out laying the ideal first turn for each nation. and it is a good start to follow.

Even with amazing play from the Allies it's very hard to end it that quickly. And if you're saying the Axis win in that amount of time, something is drastically wrong.

Omg, wow

Also, do you play by the official rules, or do you change something up to make it shorter? Also, what do you use as your victory measure, major/minor victory?

well you will lose against most of the world for calling it checkers for a start ... but best advice for playing against someone better than you is to take advantage of the 'they must jump/take you' rule (is it a rule when you play checkers rather than draughts?).

Most people will have a 2-3+ move plan in there head ... if you can sacrifce 1 piece per game to throw them off balance it can be a total game changer with out you having to try and figure out all the alternatives (a bit of practice and you can read 3+ moves ahead for most pieces)

if the ruin route doesnt work just play more often or switch to another game only the US plays as it narrows down the number of people you can lose to.

Never more your back row and aggressively take the open field squares on the sides. Funnel the opponent in and make a sacrifice for a double or triple.

Gun meant never "move" but yeah that's a good strat.
