So while we're raging, Mass Effect 3 (in Off-topic)

Sickone March 19 2012 12:57 PM EDT

Anybody with a computer able to play it decently already done so ?
I mean, people who finished ME1/ME2 back in the day and waited for ME3.

I for one won't touch EA's Origin, so that leaves the usual and honest alternative to play it out of the question. Then again, that is not a complete roadblock, more of a self-imposed delay (and I would guess that also means multiplayer will forever remain out of the question, but I digress).

I hear the game itself is quite passable, some would say even good... but the very endings got DeusExed badly, actually worse than there (I wouldn't have thought possible, but there you go), and most of your previous game choices that were touted as highly important and such reduced to nearly meaningless stats too.

AdminQBVerifex March 19 2012 1:18 PM EDT

You can play it on Xbox still I'm pretty sure that uses non-origin stuff

Lord Bob March 19 2012 1:26 PM EDT

The new one looks amazing. I always wanted to play this series, but I don't have a 360. And I won't touch Origin either.

Sickone March 19 2012 1:30 PM EDT

AFAIK all official copies (PC, PS, XBox) need an internet connection and an Origin account. A banned multiplayer account also bans you from single player, since it's one and the same account.
Plus, PC saves are incompatible with console saves and I'm not about to replay the entire first two games just to get the setup I had/like.
Also, I don't own any consoles and don't plan on buying any.

Lord Bob March 19 2012 1:57 PM EDT

Well, that rules it out for me then. No thank you, EA.

Sickone March 19 2012 3:24 PM EDT

Well, technically, that only rules out legally buying it and then playing that particular legally bought copy.
You can still buy a legal copy to ease your conscience but play a pirated one instead :P

It's incredibly sad that developers are making this the most logical option for customers.

Sickone March 19 2012 5:29 PM EDT

What's incredibly sad is that it's not the developers that make that choice, it's the PUBLISHERS.
You know, as in, not Bioware, but EA.

Correct. My mistake.

Amazing game. Just saying. Multiplayer is surprisingly fun, though frustrating if you get anything besides an amazing group on the higher difficulties.

Also a bit random on the multiplayer.

this game is so good, that even though my controller wouldn't let me turn right, I still loved playing it.

Without having played the game yet, I can't imagine the 360 version requiring internet for anything other than multiplayer and DLC purchase. But then again, my understanding of the PC version was the same, but with internet connectivity required to play DLC.

BootyGod March 19 2012 7:05 PM EDT

I will say that on the 360 version, not having internet access either completely stops your ability to do anything besides lose the game at the end, or it severely limits your options. As in, you simply can't save certain people and can't beat the reapers without giving up big things. soooo... Yeah :\

Lord Bob March 19 2012 7:34 PM EDT

That settles it. I will not be playing the Mass Effect series.

Way to go, EA.

Woah, you're punishing yourself there. I missed ME1, but ME2 is one of my favorite 360 games ever. If you want to avoid supporting the developer, just buy a USED copy on ebay.

Lord Bob March 19 2012 7:51 PM EDT

That still requires me to get a 360 first.

Josh [Cult of the Valaraukar] March 20 2012 1:15 PM EDT

You could get a PS3 then for ME2 and 3.

Sickone March 21 2012 12:48 AM EDT

Or, you know, just memedit your galactic readiness to 100% in the PC version :P
