This is not Minecraft, this is a total conversion that makes the game incredibly realistic, and actually very difficult, but interesting. Check out the video.
I've tried it before... it's actually kind of annoying. Needing to get a minimap to show biome borders just so you can find specific metals is, once again, annoying. The forging looks interesting but if something goes wrong you can spend a while looking through your jar files to figure out why you can't make base bars. It really is beta-beta so most thing are forgivable but after crafting the hundredth axe for planks and making multiple charcoal pits.... it gets grating.
Log piles and pages of ore.....
Trollbeard demands hippy merchants, baby snatching lizards, windmills, drawbridges, giant death spiders, and a horde of midgets to breed with.
Oh, and a crossbow DLC. ;)
Dwarf Fortress, basically an ASCII graphic'ed game with... similar ways to do everything, only you get half brain dead, alcoholic dwarves to do your work for you whenever they feel like it... and you don't have to wait 24 in-game hours for your pile of dirt to burn out and leave you with charcoal.
