Ritual Costs (in General)

miteke [Superheros] June 5 2015 12:06 PM EDT

When a ritual costs a certain number of clan points, how are those points deducted? Since clan points are time sensitive, the two most likely scenarios are:
1) The points are deducted for as long as the ritual persists.
2) The points are deducted for 24 hours.

Anyone know off-hand or do I need to do some experimentation and *shudder* math.

i think (and i could be wrong) that the cp cost is up front, as in deducted from what you have for clan points at the moment of casting the ritual

Yes, so if you were to use it at 0 cp. You guys would have -1000.

But how long would the deduction last then?

Adminedyit [Superheros] June 6 2015 6:24 AM EDT

just at the time of the casting. if you have 2000 cp and cast a ritual that costs 1200 cp it would deduct the 1200 from the 2000 leaving you with 800 cp. as far as i know it only deducts them 1 time from what you have at the moment of casting.

Say you earn an average of 200 CP per hour and you cast a 6 hour ritual that costs 500 CPs. What will you CPs be in 4 hours, 8 hours, and 24 hours? If you are deducting clan points it HAS to have a duration or it has to cancel earned CPs which also have a duration and expire over time. No matter what, the deduction must have a duration, and my question deals on how long it lasts.

Also saying that the CPs are deducted immediately requires a bit of understanding since you do not move in rank until the top of the hour. So if you do the ritual at 1:30 you will have all the benefits and none of the penalties until 2:00. Rituals are most cost effective to cast just before the Sunday moratorium begins, though getting any significant use out of them at that time it a different story.

It takes from the clan points you have already earned.
Or when you cast into the negative it only takes as much as the cost will be to zero. theres not a time clock that takes them slowly or anything like that. Its paid for and done when you cast it.

But clan points you have earned have a duration - 24 hours from the time the CP was earned. All CPs have a duration. The cost of the ritual must have a duration. So what is it?

miteke [Superheros] June 8 2015 1:08 PM EDT

If it is only a deduction at the time you use the ritual, then at the top of the hour, when CPs are recalculated, the ritual cost will go away. Since the rankings are only calculated at that time, then the ritual would effectively cost nothing. Is that truly how it works? That would make the cost pointless.

I think I got it! CP gains and losses are timestamped. This timestamp is used when calculating ranks and other historical figures. When you are doing the ranking at the top of the hour, I'm betting you look at all gains/losses for the last 24 hours. Thus the ritual costs would affect your ranking (I should say the ranking that determines your bonus) for 24 hours. There are other figures and stats on the User & clan statistics page that look over greater periods which would also include the ritual costs.

But the point is that it is not a duration, but a timestamp. And depending on what the purpose is, you may or may not be including the ritual cost in the math.

i believe you might be over thinking it.

if you have 2000 cp at 10:05am and are ranked 3rd for clans and cast a ritual that costs 1200 cp then your cp's go to 800.

you now get the effect for the duration of the ritual but only lose the cp's on the initial cast.

since it was 10:05 when cast your actual rank is not adjusted until the next hour. so you have that entire hour to recoup the cp's that were lost.
