Auction problem (in General)

can be sold while a A Set of Greaves [3] cannot be.

The auction (sell item) says:
Nothing to sell!
Minimum value to auction is $5,000.

And the value of the Greaves is actually over $5,000?

Don't forget that the value of an item is based on both the Net Worth of the item, and the average trade price, as shown in Community->Item Meta-stats. Greaves aren't considered 'high value' items by most of us, so it's even possible that for Greaves the NW should be quite a bit above $5,000 before it can be auctioned.

Suggestion? Sell to store...

I'm pretty sure that any item of at least 5K NW will be auctionable even if it's market value is lower, actually.

that's because both the NW and the market value are taken into account.

if NW > 5K then its auctionable

if NW < 5K then the added market value would need to make it a 'value' of $5.000

I tried to auction some SSB's +1 and they did not show.
However, after the upgrade, the auctioneer took my Pair of Steel-shod Boots [6] (+2) 4,335.
When looking for comparitve prices, i saw that a number of SSB's +1 had already been sold.

There is an inconsistency here.

Perhaps the rarity is tied to the number of a particular item in existence, and now SSB's are not so rare anymore, so the barrier moves up?

Phaete: each auction changes the 'average value over NW' in Community->Item Meta-stats, and that figure is used to decide if an item is auctionable.

I wonder why not that I wish to sell my greaves.
It's just that the NW is 705 and can sell even though it should not.

go look at the meta-stats. According to it, hard leather caps sell for 6kish over the NW, therefore making it auctionable. Your shods however, only have a 3.8kish price over NW, therefore making it unauctionable.

sorry, you said greaves, not shods. greaves only have a price above NW of about 300, therefore making them unauctionable.
