Item Meta-Stats change (in General)

Trashcan January 11 2005 8:34 AM EST

Just noticed a new change regarding the Item Meta-Stats page, but maybe it isn't new and I'm stupid =p When you select an item to see who owns it, It shows the stats on the top 10 of each item. Thanks Jon!

Tibike77 January 11 2005 9:00 AM EST

Right now (if it's not still "in progress") it shows the Top 50 NW items plus owners, and the stats on the Top 10 NW items (without actual NW).

However, the owners of items with NW from 51st place to Nth place are no longer visible.

It's pretty nice like that, no questions there, but it would be nicer to see a hybrid between this and the former display version... for instance, when you want to look for a low level ToJ owner, a link to "display all", where the old code would be used ?

AdminJonathan January 11 2005 9:08 AM EST

Who the hell ever goes looking for "a low-level ToJ owner?" It's completely pointless. Remember, only the top 10 get stats displayed.

Tibike77 January 11 2005 9:33 AM EST

Well, on the whole "why bother looking for somebody who has the 51st or lower NW item of one kind" thing (not necessarily ToJ, was giving it as example because it's the most common valuable item)... It's not too practical, but maybe somebody who wants to make an insta-upgrade (well, downgrade) deal with somebody else who's not certain is reading FS/WTB at all lately ?
Bottom line on that one: it's ok like that, it would be only a tad nicer to have the option of looking at the old code too :p

On a different note, in the stats you see the char that *holds* the item at the moment, but it says "owned".
In case of loaned or rented items, it's not the case.

Any chance we could get to see the actual owner of the item alongside the current holder (renter/loaner/auctioneer) of the item ?

AdminJonathan January 11 2005 9:35 AM EST

You were planning to PM all 400+ owners of a TJK offering an insta deal? You're even dumber than I thought.

Bolfen January 11 2005 9:38 AM EST

Sweet! Heh, this totally covers my "stats for tattoos" request earlier ;)

Thanks Jonathan!

Tibike77 January 11 2005 9:46 AM EST

Hmpf. I feel mildly offended. That "dumber than I thought" was totally uncalled for, no matter how much you personally disagree with my views.
Of course *I* wouldn't do that. But that's besides the point, which is "availability of options"... which I thought you were proud this game offers ?

With your logic, from a sales standpoint, you would be much better off with newspaper advertisments. Why do you think spam/junk mail is so spread in real-life ?

I am not one person that would spend 1.5k BA a day camping the store. However, such a person *might* find CMing 200 low-level ToJ owners for "instant upgrades" a nice way of making money the easy way - and it doesn't cost him BA to do so.

AdminShade January 11 2005 9:48 AM EST

Tibike Jonathan has a strange but good sense of humor ;)

AdminJonathan January 11 2005 9:58 AM EST

Tibike: and yet you're apparently mentally challenged enough that you don't realize that "CMing 200 low-level ToJ owners" is an outstanding way to get fined or banned.

Please get a clue before wasting space on my forums again.

Tibike77 January 11 2005 9:59 AM EST

That's why I said "mildly" ;)
There's no secret he and I have had some arguments in the past, and I think he considers most of my comments [Edited by admin for non -pg Tibike77 fined] "ad initio"...

Well, I can only *try* to convince him he's not always right, although any and all T.O.S. of any (online) game(s) in the world would say otherwise when referring to the game creator :p

Tibike77 January 11 2005 10:13 AM EST

Let me repeat: I *LIKE* the change you made. I don't "request" anything, I simply stated that the *option* of also being able to see "stuff" the old way *might* appeal to some people.

Jon, it's nothing personal (but apparently we manage to post at the same time)... I only gave generic examples, and of all people in the world you should know generic examples shouldn't be taken "per se".
If you would like a more specific example, let's have one that's pretty specific (and very hypothetical):

I have a Level 12,000 ToJ.
I don't use it a lot lately, I place it in rentals usually.
It keeps growing in level/NW non-stop, and it also brings in some cash.

Now, let's say that out of the 400+ ToJ in play, I notice 100 of them staying at pretty level for a few days (can't now).
I look at the owners, at their (recent) battles, wether or not they forged or shopcamped, etc.
No ideea how those came into possesion of a ToJ and not use them at all, but they have them.

Maybe I select from those 100 about 20 that I think they wouldn't mind parting with it. Chances are big those people don't read FS/WTB a lot, if at all, so posting there would be not very usefull. So I chatmail NOT 200+ people, but 20 or less. Out of all, maybe 3 or 4 respond in a few days, and we continue discussing a mutually beneficial agreement. Or not.

But point is, the OPTION to do that would exist.

Bottom line ?
You say "the chances of that happening are slim to none, so why keep the option"
I say "keep the possibility open, just for the sake of the option".

Now do as you like. I won't bring THIS specific point up again.

Fined Tibike77 for an unpg acronym in one of his replies.

Tibike77 January 11 2005 10:31 AM EST

/me slaps own head.
Serves me right for using acronyms in RL too much without actually remembering what they stand for :P

AdminJonathan January 11 2005 10:46 AM EST

I've removed Tibike's posting privileges. It's been clear for a while that he doesn't know when to shut up.

I'm a big fan of the change! Thanks :)

Maybe I shouldn't get in the way of the cross-fire, but the advantage of the old style meta-stats was that you could see how many of a given item a person had. Not really useful, but interesting...
