I love the change, Jonathan. Nice one!

/me starts doing the "Nerf DM!" chant.

BooDiggens January 19 2005 6:27 PM EST

I need everything spelled out. So a CoBF +10 would block a level 40k fireball?

Lumpy Koala January 19 2005 6:35 PM EST

I think 4k damage :)

QBRanger January 19 2005 6:40 PM EST

Just tested things out with my cobf i just upgraded to +2.

I noticed almost no reduction in the FB damage my minion with it receives. So I suspect that it lowers the effective level of the opponents FB by 4k each level of the +.

Just my observations.

NotSuitablForChildren [Yeeeaahh.................] January 19 2005 6:57 PM EST

Granted my CoBF is only +1 it doesn't seem to block any damage from fireball at all.

kraything Score / Power Rating: 37 / 41

Bolly's Fireball hit Deli Melt [14]

Bolly's Fireball hit Deli Melt [8]

Bolly's Fireball hit Deli Melt [11]

He obviously can't have that much trained into his fireball, so do I have to go for +2 to get it to block anything or what?

AdminJonathan January 19 2005 7:08 PM EST

damage blocking should be fixed now

QBRanger January 19 2005 7:48 PM EST

Yep, it is fixed now.

Thanks, overall the changes should be for the positive. Just that they were sudden and kind of unexpected (for me).

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 20 2005 4:37 AM EST

Don't worry IA! I'm still doing no damage to Susan. But at least I now know it is possible to do so! ;)

And my score has stopped dropping to 50K every time I log off, where people half my PR with CBF s were beating 7 kinds of brick dust out of me every chance they got. ;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 20 2005 4:53 AM EST

The 4K per point works really well. Especially when combined with reduced damage in ranged rounds (some people I can only damage when my FB reaches melee), and with FB s damage spread over multiple minions (again, I have to wait till all other minions are dead before my FB does enough damage to hurt CBF wearers).

[HaveToLook]Buffet January 20 2005 5:18 PM EST

Ok. So I might be dense here. But a +3 Cobf blocks my 69k Level fireball. Shouldn't the 4k per '+' be applied to the FB level and not damage?

MrC [DodgingTheEvilForgeFees] January 20 2005 5:31 PM EST

Buffet, mine's at 62k, for anyone to block that entirely would cost 1.5mil + expenses from buying that cloak. Whereas they'd have to spend a few 100k to block it when it's going by damage.

Not many people have 1.5mil NW, let alone 1.5mil to drop into a cloak just to defend against FB. And if they do spend that much, well they deserve to be blocking it.

[HaveToLook]Buffet January 20 2005 5:44 PM EST

Your wrong.. my FB is higher than yours and a +3 cobf blocks mine

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 20 2005 5:57 PM EST

Buffet, my FB is far lower than yours and MrC's, but I do around 20K damage in melee with my FB. That's a +6 to totally absorb mine... Are you looking at the reduced damage you do in ranged? Or the reduction for hitting multiple minions?

[HaveToLook]Buffet January 20 2005 6:07 PM EST

Do you 20k in damage to the minion wearing the Cobf, or to the other minions?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 20 2005 6:12 PM EST

Other minions. It's my average melee damage.

Yours must be a bit higher than that...

[HaveToLook]Buffet January 20 2005 6:19 PM EST

Of course i damage other minions, they aren't wearing the CoBF. Only the minion wearing the CoBF is protected. And what I am saying is that a +3 cobf is blocking my 68k level FB which i don't think is right.

[HaveToLook]Buffet January 20 2005 6:22 PM EST

As Tibike77 might say:

CoBF absorbs (substracts, whatever) 4k points of (fire) damage from each damage-dealing source per enchant point for the wearer. If X enemy minions are present and you do to them damages between 7k and 9k in one certain round, a CoBF+1 wearer would take 3-5k damage instead, a CoBF+2 wearer would take 0-1k damage instead, and a CoBF+3 wearer would never take any damage in that specific round. The rest take normal damage.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 20 2005 6:25 PM EST

Dude, that's also what I said above...

"The 4K per point works really well. <snip> and with FB s damage spread over multiple minions (again, I have to wait till all other minions are dead before my FB does enough damage to hurt CBF wearers)."

I was asking in response to your;

"Ok. So I might be dense here. But a +3 Cobf blocks my 69k Level fireball"

As a +3 CBF doesn't block my 40K level FB when a single minion and in melee...

I take it your FB is not being blocked by a single minion in melee?

;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 20 2005 6:31 PM EST

I guess the reduction works on damage rather than FB level because the same routine deals with reduction of other CBF splash damage and the FB friendly fire splash as well.

MrC [DodgingTheEvilForgeFees] January 20 2005 7:00 PM EST

Buffet, as you say, your FB is bigger than mine so I don't see how it's being blocked.

Against a single minion without a CoBF I do up to 20k damage (in ranged), which would mean a +3 would block 12k of that which would drop it to anything up to 8k damage, in ranged.
Against multiple opponents it's obviously reduced damage which would mean that a +3 CoBF would block my FB and most likely yours too, but that doesn't mean you can't get any damage through, your FB will still kill the others just as easy and then you get some big hits against the last minion even if it does have a CoBF.
Yes when your opponent has a CoBF your chances of winning are much smaller but no that's not overpowered.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 20 2005 7:12 PM EST

I've been discussing this with Tibike, and it's the "- cost per upgrade point is now constant" that's the most worrying.

Will the increasing xp cost to improve FB be able to keep up with a fixed CBD cost? In the long run, will FB have any hope versus high NW cloaks?

Do we just have to wait for time to tell?

AdminJonathan January 20 2005 10:36 PM EST

Or, you could just assume that I'm not stupid.

Majestik Moose January 29 2005 2:24 PM EST

Just to clarify (for myself) how it works:
Hypnotoad has 93 in AC, 36 vs. magic, and (4) in Protection

I have done some fights against The Noble one, who has a +5 CBF:

With my +7 CBF on:
HypnoToad burns from the flames surrounding Altus (26477)

With my +7 CBF off:
HypnoToad burns from the flames surrounding Altus (22262)

How is this possible???
Weren't my CBF meant to guard against his CBF damage????? Now it looks more like it improves it.

deifeln January 29 2005 2:49 PM EST

You only tested it ONCE! There is randomness built into damage...test it a bunch of times and take an average.

Majestik Moose January 29 2005 2:52 PM EST

I've tested it three times.. but it kinda hurts for my clan, doing it. These are the results from the two other tests:

CBF on
HypnoToad burns from the flames surrounding Altus (19289)
HypnoToad burns from the flames surrounding Altus (26751)

CBF off
HypnoToad burns from the flames surrounding Altus (19713)
HypnoToad burns from the flames surrounding Altus (21074)

As it seems to me.. there is no impact, whether I use CBF or not.

AdminJonathan January 29 2005 7:37 PM EST

fixed

QBRanger January 29 2005 8:08 PM EST

Sorry for the question.

But if you have a minion with a CBF on and he attacks via melee someone with one also equipped, does your cloak protect vs the flame damage on the others CBF?

Thanks.

QBRanger January 29 2005 10:39 PM EST

Did not see or forgot the very first response. So again im an idiot.

Not the first time and I guarantee it wont be the last.
