What happened, now im taking damage from Fireballs.
What the heck, I bought it for its properties and now its changed? All that money gone, spent.
Anyone else have this problem?

Jon likes to "move the goalposts". The changes he implements are usually done to balance the game as overpowered items become obvious. He also makes changes to make the game more interesting as well.
Whatever the reason, just understand that change is constant here. If you think you have found the ultimate strategy and you cannot be beat, forget it, either you are playing CB1, or Jon has not yet noticed or cared that you are invincible. You will be "nerfed".
Moral: Don't get too attached to a very specialized strategy.
