Newbish Question: CoC damage (in General)

How many rounds before it deals more damage than a FB of equal level now that it's got 40% extra damage?

This is just a general estimate based on something I vaguely remember from CB1. Also, CB2 is a new game, so using CB1 data to draw conclusions about spells in CB2 will most likely invalidate said conclusions from the start. But I'll do it anyway!

Assumptions:

  1. Fireball:Pre-Buff Cone of Cold damage in CB2 was equal to that in CB1.
  2. In CB1, Cone of Cold was superior to Fireball at 11 rounds.

The Math:

Conclusion:

Cone of Cold does more damage than Fireball in fights lasting 7 rounds or more.
1.925(x-3) = x
x = 6.243

Yes,

But one thing that is not being considered.

In the first 3 rounds that a fireball goes off, you do damage to your enemies. During that time 1 or more enemy minons MAY die, therefore making the damage you receive less. Especially if there is a mage in the back ranks casting MM. So while the CoC damage will eventually overcome that of a FB, whether CoC is better cannot be truely answered.

He didn't ask when it was better, he asked when it would deal more damage. :)

Sry about that.

Thanks, are you counting Fireball's 30%, 20% then 10% penalty for ranged rounds though?

Becoming February 12 2005 4:33 AM EST

No, I didn't factor that in... just did a quick calc :)

Without doing any math, CoC would be better a round earlier most likely.

Ah, ok :)
Thanks.
