The Tattoo renting industry (in General)

Well.. I am a sucker, (rented Budice's tattoo, only fought 20 times with it though).

He rents it out in 12*2 intervals, with 8,000$ per time. That gives him a maximum gain of 96,000$. His listing fee atm. would be 90,152 $.

With this numbers, I have made a calculation, on how high the ToJs should be able to make, without worrying for economy. (Renting out big tats, is the fastest way to level them).

Calcs:
I personally believe, that 10k is the upper limit for how much money you are willing to pay for a tattoo / 2 hours. (Uncertainty 20%)

10k would give maximum 120k in total, of which 60k is taken off directly, in listing fee.

That leaves 60k to cover up for the NW bit in listing fee.
I also recon that tattoo-renters can take a 40k loss per day without too much worries for not being able to buy BA, or whatever they wants. (Uncertainty 30%)

That 100k would be equal to a Tattoo with 10M NW. The NW/level ratio is not linear, it seems to raise, in a pretty slow pace. For Budice, that ratio is 18 atm. (For me it is 17).
When counting on the 10M NW one, I will use 23 as the NW/level ratio (uncertainty 10%). That would give a tattoo, with 434k level.
With the uncertainties in account, I'd say 350k to 540k, giving an average of 445k.

Conclusion.. I don't think the ToJs will become bigger than 445k, from renting.

2 flaws in that theory.

First: in 1 day there are 12-2 hour blocks. But almost always one only gets 11 rentals in that time maximum. The last day I put my tattoo in rentals (its about 140k), I only got 10 rentals out of it. Part of the reason is the time it just sits there waiting for someone to rent it eating up time.

Second: you took 10k as a arbitrary number. No one knows for sure. Right now there is no shortage of people renting the high level tattoos at 8k a day. Perhaps there will be plenty of people paying over 12k to rent it.

Also, personally I am willing to lose a little money on the renting thing to get my tattoo up there in levels.

Just more random musings on my part.

Majestik Moose February 14 2005 8:09 AM EST

yeah.. this is not truth.. this is an analysis on a thing that cannot be computed exactly.

1. True, 11 might be a better number.

2. 10k is a mental barrier. (I've put out 20 % uncertainty, but given that mostly low PR chars rent tats, I never think we will see f.ex. 20k rentings)

3. I have putted up 40k a day, as a loss that tattoo renters are willing to take. (with 30% uncertainty). What loss are you willing to take?

The current state of renting tattoos will probably have a long term effect that nobody seems to be noticing. The amount of tattoos that are out there at higher levels means that nobody (except maybe new players) are interested in renting lower level tattoos. So there are loads of high level tattoos gaining levels while very low level tattoos stay low. And they will stay low probably, because nobody has that much fight time to raise more than one tattoo at a time.

This won't kill off the tattoo rental business but it will most likely mean that there will be less of them going in there. And the low level of most of the tattoos - especially Lesser tattoos will also probably keep the price of them down on re-sale.

QBRanger February 14 2005 8:15 AM EST

I personally would be able to take a 25k loss a day. Less than in your example. I cannot speak about others. 25k a day is 175k a week, over 800k a month. Perhaps later as income increase that number would go up.

Otherwise your calculations are a very good basis about the rentals of tattoos.

Personally through some calcs I did, I figured 600k or so would be the topping point for tattoos in rentals.

That is unless Jon changes things.

the only thing I notice are the poor suckers who get bashed horribly when they have to give back the Tattoo and thats funny :)

I just did a graph of ToJ level vs. net worth. The net worth rises exponentially. See my user portrait

for the gory details.

I got all these data points from rentals, auctions, and a few FS posts. Here's the data if someone wants to double-check me. The only curve/equation I could get to fit was an exponential one.

thanx.. that is a useful database.. (I have very poor graph regression skills), but I recon the 10M NW point to be around 440k PR.

Reebok February 16 2005 4:36 PM EST

I agree with Johhnywas on this one. There's almost no market for renting out a 13k tat like I've got, because people could just as easily rent a 40k one. It causes a pretty big divide in the people who can rent theirs vs. the people who can't.

I wonder what the floor is for effectively being able to rent out your ToJ 20-30k? Opinions?

budice February 16 2005 6:41 PM EST

Guess ill make a small reply. My ToJ being the biggest one always gets the full 12 rentals. I also know that some people were willing to pay the 20k transfer fee before i started putting it in rentals. Therefore i do believe that I would still be getting the full 12 rentals even when i put it in at 20k per rental. Sounds nuts, not so the low people who rent my ToJ make way more than 20K renting it and get a huge ammount of exp. People will be renting the biggest ToJ for a very long time to come unless Jon changes the renting fee or takes them out of rentals forever. Now if one of you can figure out how high my ToJ will be when people are paying 50k to rent it, that would be nice.

budice February 16 2005 6:50 PM EST

One last thing, the market for renting the super high ToJs will only support 3-4 of them when the rental fees get into the 20k+ area so the top 3-4 ToJs will start to pull way ahead of the others as you are starting to see now. At some point I could be wrong but u have to factor in that there will always be someone paying to have the biggest. My ToJ should be at that 445k level in 3 weeks and i guess we will find out.

budice February 16 2005 7:50 PM EST

The very last thing now. Right now I still have a lot of renters renting when they have 0 BA and only use the 82-120 they get in 2 hours or less if they log out before. I would guess that when it gets more expensive to rent they will wait till they have 160 before renting and also buy all BA at that time as most make more than they spend with such a big ToJ, Which means that the rate at which my ToJ is growing should speed up. Now im sure at some point the renting will stop but i really have no idea yet when that would be.

Reebok February 16 2005 10:26 PM EST

budice you kind of hit the nail on the head there, it's like a rich get richer type of thing. There's only so many ToJ's that will be rented, and people will naturally pick the larger (until they get to a certain point, where it costs loads to rent) which will lead to a bigger and bigger gap in the levels.
