I forgot that my dad's birthday is today. I need an idea for a present up to $1000 that i can just go to the store and buy right away.

he's 70.
has all the power tools he needs
I already bought him a home theatre system so nothing as far as stereo/tv equipment.
he likes to fix stuff around the house.
he likes to garden.
Generally, he likes gizmos.

A super nice PDA.
An all inclusive trip somewhere.
Hire a landscaper to put a waterfall or something cool in his yard.
A spa package

He's 70 and you forgot his birthday ?

I suggest when you go the "gizmo" shop you buy yourself an organiser at the same time and plug in his birthday so you won't forget 71.

My old man will be 72 in May and for his birthday last year he said he wanted a good "retro-styled" pinball machine. You might have a problem purchasing one today (and it might not fit in the car), but I bet he doesn't have one already.

For the record, my mother wouldn't let us get him one :(

"Hire a landscaper to put a waterfall or something cool in his yard. "

Glory made the above suggestion, but I'd like to add something to it. If he has a large enough yard, how about setting up a small fish pond in it? They now have pre-made plastic molds at Wal-Mart that you can buy, and pre-packaged pump/filter kits for outdoor ponds. All you'd have to do after buy it is dig a little, run one power line from the house to the pond location, and then go choose appropriate fish with your father (which gives the bonus of quality father time). Furthermore, it would expand his gardening into water gardening, if he's up to it.

My brother's and I chipped in and had a big fish pond put in my parents backyard 2 years ago. ever since, we've been getting him stuff like new fountains and fish for the pond so that theme is getting a little too played.

One of the problems with buying a present for my dad is that my brother's and i have bought him so much stuff that each year, it gets harder and harder to get him something that he doesn't already have.... like a pinball machine.

i've always had a problem with not using an apostrophe when it was required and now i consistently use them when i don't need to.
