Mage Shield (in General)

NotSuitablForChildren [Yeeeaahh.................] March 19 2005 3:18 PM EST

And what we think about it...

LumpBot March 19 2005 3:19 PM EST

Shields are mostly AC purposes. Mages don't need AC. But it would be interesting to see how to balance it out.

I finally see March 19 2005 3:20 PM EST

I am wondering if it reduces AMF backfires as the ToE now does?

NotSuitablForChildren [Yeeeaahh.................] March 19 2005 3:22 PM EST

It seems that the points provide ac rather than protection like the CoBF. Perhaps the effect is intrinsic and cannot be upgraded.

LumpBot March 19 2005 3:23 PM EST

Maybe a shield that protects against offense enchaments like dispel, AMF, and EC =D

Nightmare [NewNightmares] March 19 2005 3:26 PM EST

<For those playing the home game, check item-metastats.>

It may be named "Mage Shield", but it surely isn't for mages. It says in the description it negates trained spells. Freaking sweet for us with single tanks. :-D

LumpBot March 19 2005 3:27 PM EST

Umm...that looks very "un-mage like"

Nightmare [NewNightmares] March 19 2005 3:29 PM EST

it is more of an Anti-Mage Shield, which is a good thing right about now :)

LumpBot March 19 2005 3:30 PM EST

That is what I was thinking, anti-mage Shield is a much better name. I guess another choice for tanks AC over DD Defense

Sevare March 19 2005 3:31 PM EST

naw Mage Shield works...it shields against mages...kind of like a windshield...

LumpBot March 19 2005 3:32 PM EST

But who would wear it? Which person on the team?

Alienfb March 19 2005 3:33 PM EST

From the sounds of it, its just what i need to complete my strat.

A Tank with CoBF and a Mage Shield, awesome!

Sevare March 19 2005 3:36 PM EST

The tank of corse, though depending on the UC deduction (if it has one) it might be a nice new toy for UC teams.

Nightmare [NewNightmares] March 19 2005 3:41 PM EST

My question with it is: when it says it negates spells, does that include enchantments, or just DD spells? ie. will I still be able to use AMF with this shield?

Nightmare [NewNightmares] March 19 2005 3:44 PM EST

Actually, after fighting expostfacto, neither his FB or his DM were affected

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] March 19 2005 3:47 PM EST

I think the definition tells us what the shield is going to do, not necessarily what it's doing at the moment. I think he's still working on the effects.

LumpBot March 19 2005 3:48 PM EST

Tweaking them, making sure they are not over nor under powered.

Sevare March 19 2005 3:49 PM EST

or maybe the effects are linked to the +. It protects from direct damage better with a higher + but also negates more and more of your own magic. So maybe its not an absolute negation like the CBFs skill/defense enchantment negation untill you get a huge upgraded one.

BooDiggens March 19 2005 4:02 PM EST

Nightmare, his shield may have been in the Blacksmith when you attacked him.

Nixon Jibfest March 19 2005 4:46 PM EST

If Jon offers the Mage Shield like he did the Balrog (one per player for USD), i'll be the first to sell mine.

Nightmare [NewNightmares] March 19 2005 4:54 PM EST

Mage Shield is in its own section: Power Shield.. Nifty :)

Concepter March 19 2005 6:04 PM EST

It's the new supporter Item! Well I'm pretty sure..

AdminShade March 19 2005 7:57 PM EST

It will be a very nice addition to whomever uses a CoBF.

It will be a pain in the behind of most mage users, as it reduces DD damage.

It will be somewhat of a good/great shield for Tanks that don't use spells depending on its DX penalty (no magic penalty needed if it says its 100% (being disabling))

I will certainly want to get my hands on one :)

Nightmare [NewNightmares] March 19 2005 8:04 PM EST

Shade, look at the CoBF description and then the mage shield description (gonna hafta think of something besides MS to call it :P). CoBF says it negates enchantments, while the shield says it negates spells.. Will the shield negate trained DD, or all spells regardless of type?

Duke March 19 2005 9:48 PM EST

I think a mage weapon should be add so the balance is keep.

Sevare March 19 2005 9:59 PM EST

Q: Mage staffs would be cool to augment magical power!

A: private explained why this is dumb with more patience than I would:

Tanks: Can become more powerful than mages, but cost lots of money to maintain. Mages: Tend to be cheaper than tanks, but also tend to be less powerful (and less able to deal with armor penalties)

I think this provides a nice balance between spending money on your chars and spending exp on them; I see no reason to change it.

from the FORS faq :P mages dont really need more powering up then they do now. Tanks (espicially UC minions) need a bit more loving before mages. But then again, thats my oppinion.

Duke March 19 2005 10:47 PM EST

I guess it time to unlearn my spell and move to old Cb1 tank.

Tribute March 19 2005 10:51 PM EST

a mi tambien! No, of course I am not Spanish (or from any other country that speaks it)! I just love how it works all the time!

CT [Monopoly] March 19 2005 11:18 PM EST

I don't like it for 2 reasons:

1) I can't use it because I have a ToA.
2) CoBFs can be used along with them.

He just nerfed the CoBFs not too long ago, now this just gives and incentive to buy one and use it with this shield :/
