Ranking the relative desirability of items (in General)

In this thread Chet wonders what's the point of "Ave price over NW". After some discussion, he concludes Jonathan should turn that column into a "Worth Upgrading" index...the more negative, the worse the index.

Since I had a lull in my work today, I thought I would generate such a listing. First I removed items with a negative ratio, then assigned a maximum value to items with a blank ratio. (This is arbitrary. I could have assigned a minimum value instead).

Sorting high->low shows us the best->worst relative desirability of items from an economic viewpoint.

I got a chatmail pointing out that I don't have all items listed.
The reason for that is that I deliberately did not include items with a negative index value. At the time, I thought it wasn't worth mentioning items with such a low value.

In retrospect, I wish I had included them, just for the sake of completeness. If I have some time later I'll add them to the thread.

Shade, there's a difference between knowing an item has no value, and not knowing an item's value.

Shade's point is valid. Some items don't trade because of their intrinsic lack of value. The words 'glaringly obvious error' come to mind when you see whips ranked above elven long bows.

So basically, ignore the top 7 items. It would have been less confusing if he did use a minimum value instead of a maximum.

Yes. I faced the problem of having some obviously high ranking items (Morgul-Hammer) and some obviously low ones (Whip).

The problem with arbitrary choices is that it's not always the choice that another person might make.

If I were to do it again, perhaps I'd put them in a separate table. *shrug* If it's really that important to you then make your own list. All I did was consolidate and sort the meta-items stats page.
