Dex, pth and landing a blow (in General)

Hi all.

I've recently changed my mage to tank, a have noticed I'm having a hard time hitting other tanks with ToAs. (Btw, this is a general informational post, I don't think ToAs are overpowered and I'm not thinking of changing from a ToE. I was reminded of a post Chet made looking at Dex gaps, and thought this might be a good contribution :) )

I fought Spid for a laugh, and with my dex at ~75K and his at ~200K, I didn;t think I'd have too good a chance of hitting, but with my pth (+20) I thought I might land a couple of blows. I was momentarily confused when I had trouble hitting at all, especially as his DB's are smaller than mine (mine are +25), until I remembered the nice +10 Evasion the ToA also gives!

Moving on to a tank more my size, I've just fought 7 battles with Warchilds Alucard, and only win due to AMF backlash. :)

My Dex is 74,882 Alucards is 114,811. Alucard has DBs that are 12 places smaller than mine, and are the 10th smallest in the game. He also has +10 Evasion from his ToA. As above my pth is +20 and I recoreded the melee rounds of the 7 fights.

Out of 26 melee attacks, I managed to land only 6 on Alucard.

For 2 fights, I didn't land a single hit.

I assume that Alucards DB's + ToA evasion to be grreater than my pth, but that leaves a dex difference of 39,929 (or a dex around 53% larger) negating 77% of my attacks.

Don't underestimate Dexterity!

;)

I never took much notice of dex in CB1 or here due to a reliance on mage teams. But my little 13k single tank wins most of his battles against tanks because of his dex. Most of them at this level are tanks in multi- minion teams so are a lot less strong/dextrous and miss continuously!

I agree dex is great - it's almost like having a 100% endurance sometimes! =)

GL, you've spent a lot of forum time pondering defensive strats - there's loads of items/skills now that enable you to be aggressively defensive - must be like Christmas for you! =)

:D Yeah.

But I've a feeling unless things are changed, we're gonna start seeing a lot more stalemates...

;)

QBJohnnywas April 6 2005 10:41 AM EDT

Yep, and the more stalemates the poorer we are. It's a funny state of affairs when you're actually better off losing.... =)

It costs more to heal than you make from a loss, so stalemates are better from a cost point of view.

AdminShade April 6 2005 6:44 PM EDT

stalemates don't make you any money at all.

draws do make money.

johnnywas...it might be because your little tank has a CoBF on it :P

RIPsalt3d April 6 2005 10:39 PM EDT

Thanks, Shade, but Johnny was referring to losses.

QBJohnnywas April 7 2005 1:56 AM EDT

Salted, Yeah I know that stalemates leave you better off cashwise - but you do get some xp - even if it's tiny amounts - from losses and none at all from stalemates. I guess I'm in the minority by considering xp wealth as well as money! =)

Slurpz - it's surprising how many tanks I'm facing don't even make it to melee to hit the CoBF. Most are missing me in ranged and dying fairly quickly! At this level the CoBF is most use as a shield against FB.
