DM-Thoughts (in General)

I just wanted to know if my thinking about Dispel Magic is wrong or flawed.

As I posted earlier, DM is nice for a lower level PR character, but once you hit the major leagues (over 200k or so PR) youll see DM is not helpful compared to AMF.

Reasons:

1) Decay, with DM even a base decay will do 1/2 your hp in damage. But vs AMF (even a moderate size one) the decay mage will take more damage then they give out.

2) TOE mages. Without AMF, you just cannot stand up to them and kill them quick enough. I have one of the better tank characters and vs TOE COC mages, I get owned if I do not have AMF. Pretty easy in fact, I can only do about 1/2 of The Germs hp in damage.

AMF is great in that it helps in 2 ways vs mages.

1) Lowers the damage they do to you.
2) Makes them take damage to themselves.

IMO, forget about DM and use AMF.

Any thoughts:

There are a few single minion tanks around with DM. Obviously their strat is aimed against multi minion teams with AS etc. Drop that down and you can cut through them easily, especially if you're an archer. But one of the best tools against a large single minion is decay. That ability to cut their HP in two is a beautiful thing to behold.

BTW the amount of teams around who don't understand how DM works is amazing - maybe you should be encouraging it's use Ranger, because I love seeing people casting DM and AMF or EC at the same time!

But on the whole if you can use AMF you should. Even if people start using tanks more there are still more than enough mages out there to make it invaluable.

The other enchantment that people should be making far more use of - as tanks are on the rise - is EC. CB2 is quite a safe place to be if you're a tank with AMF. A lot of teams aren't really prepared for the rise of the tank....

you forgot that if DM is at a very low level compared to EC and/or AMF...then DM will not really affect the casting of EC and/or AMF

Yeah, I know - you can be clever using both DM and AMF/EC. A massive AMF and a reasonable sized DM can work together really well, providing you keep your AMF much higher than your DM. But there are people who don't realise how DM works. Those are the ones I would encourage! =)
