answear my riddle for 10k (in Contests)

mourge420 April 12 2005 6:16 PM EDT

Okay then. Here's the basic. i will post three seperate riddles. They will be posted after the previous riddle is answered. first to correctly answer the riddle gets 10k. Here is the first riddle.

How is a raven like a writing desk?

Mistress Reyna April 12 2005 6:22 PM EDT

poe wrote on both

Majestik Moose April 12 2005 6:22 PM EDT

hmm.. the alice in wonderland one.. can't think of any answer

Vagabond April 12 2005 6:22 PM EDT

try something you can't google

Mistress Reyna April 12 2005 6:27 PM EDT

so wheres my 10k???

Becoming April 12 2005 6:28 PM EDT

Good luck with that... google has the answer to everything! mwaahaha

Vagabond April 12 2005 6:32 PM EDT

Who says you are right Reyna? There's no correct answer (mourge may have an answer in mind, in which case that is obviously the correct answer in this situation). Poe wrote The Raven, but he didn't write the poem on top of a bird.

mourge420 April 12 2005 6:34 PM EDT

sorry 3 reyna. wrong. your answer is not the one I'm looking for, if you google'd better you would know that lewis carroll has an answer.

Vagabond April 12 2005 6:40 PM EDT

From page I linked above:

Lewis Carroll himself got bugged about this so much that he was moved to write the following in the preface to the 1896 edition of his book:

Enquiries have been so often addressed to me, as to whether any answer to the Hatter's Riddle can be imagined, that I may as well put on record here what seems to me to be a fairly appropriate answer, viz: `Because it can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is never put with the wrong end in front!' This, however, is merely an afterthought; the Riddle, as originally invented, had no answer at all.

Relic April 12 2005 6:41 PM EDT

They both produce a few notes, all very flat, and are almost never turned the wrong way front.

Vagabond April 12 2005 6:58 PM EDT

Or maybe this if you prefer (also from linked page):

But the real answer, to which the careers of Poe and Carroll bear ample testimony, is that you can baffle the billions with both.

{CB1}Lukeyman April 12 2005 7:29 PM EDT

The answer is that there isn't any answer!

mourge420 April 12 2005 7:35 PM EDT

Vagbond, you win. cheater. ill transfer 10k right quick.

mourge420 April 12 2005 7:40 PM EDT

okay, new riddle.

a man lives on the 14th floor of a building and every day when he goes to work he rides the elevator down to the ground floor and leaves. when he comes home at night he takes the elevator only to the 7th floor and has to stop and use the stairs, unless its raining out when he can ride to the top. why?

48Zach April 12 2005 7:44 PM EDT

Hes too short to reach the higher buttons

mourge420 April 12 2005 7:46 PM EDT

wow that was quick.
10 k is yours.

48Zach April 12 2005 7:46 PM EDT

and when it was raining , he used his umbrella to poke the buttons

Stephen April 12 2005 7:48 PM EDT

And he uses his umbrella to push the top button when it rains

Stephen April 12 2005 7:50 PM EDT

That'll teach me to go off and do other things than submit!

I finally see April 12 2005 7:50 PM EDT

Why not just use a cane the rest of the time?

slurpz April 12 2005 7:55 PM EDT

thats because when he goes down...he can reach the lower buttons

mourge420 April 12 2005 8:14 PM EDT

right... next riddle. maybe I'll do more than three, these seem to be a great way to waste my money.

A killer that we can all catch but none of us controll.
both a tool and a weapon.
so great it can kill any man or animal
yet so small can penetrate a pinhole
never alive
but not quite dead

48Zach April 12 2005 8:56 PM EDT

SARS

slurpz April 12 2005 8:57 PM EDT

laser

Mythology April 12 2005 9:00 PM EDT

dying? time?

Mythology April 12 2005 9:01 PM EDT

Bacteria

SBW April 12 2005 9:02 PM EDT

a virus

Undertow April 12 2005 9:04 PM EDT

Bacteria are alive, however a virus is not a living organism.

It's a virus.

Mythology April 12 2005 9:06 PM EDT

Yeah but bacteria is used as a tool.

Special J April 12 2005 9:22 PM EDT

so is a virus

slurpz April 12 2005 9:24 PM EDT

it might be viruses...bacteria are alive but viruses technically are not

Special J April 12 2005 9:27 PM EDT

the answer is Bob Dole.

DarthCat April 12 2005 10:35 PM EDT

Is the answer water?

Mythology April 12 2005 10:37 PM EDT

The republican party? :p

Not water, you can control water.

LumpBot April 12 2005 10:41 PM EDT

I want to try catching water! I imagine this guy standing under a 5 gallon bucket with his hands up ready.

Maelstrom April 12 2005 10:46 PM EDT

hope? fear? cold?

LumpBot April 12 2005 10:51 PM EDT

I think Maelstrom got it with Cold. That is pretty clever and it makes sense to me =D

DarthCat April 12 2005 11:13 PM EDT

I think that's what everyone is suggesting when the say bacteria- a cold.

Maelstrom April 12 2005 11:14 PM EDT

no, cold, as in temperature

Undertow April 13 2005 12:06 AM EDT

No way man, I'm telling you, it's a virus. I'm awesome.

Maelstrom April 13 2005 12:58 AM EDT

I believe viruses would be considered to be alive...

Undertow April 13 2005 1:15 AM EDT

vi·rus n. pl. vi·rus·es

1. Any of various simple submicroscopic parasites of plants, animals, and bacteria that often cause disease and that consist essentially of a core of RNA or DNA surrounded by a protein coat. Unable to replicate without a host cell, viruses are typically not considered living organisms.

DizzyGuy April 13 2005 2:06 AM EDT

i'm with UT... virus

{CB1}Lukeyman April 13 2005 6:57 AM EDT

You can control a virus tho, they do in vaccines

Undertow April 13 2005 7:09 AM EDT

A killer that we can all catch but none of us controll. <--- here I'd point out the cold. We can catch it, but we can't control it. I believe vaccines aren't used with viruses, only bacteria, but that's REALLY just a guess.
both a tool and a weapon. <-- Viruses have been used to cure certain things, and have been used as weapons for thousands of years.
so great it can kill any man or animalh <-- duh
yet so small can penetrate a pinhole < Mhm.
never alive <-- Viruses can not live on it's own. You can't have a vial of virus. It has to be attatched to something. it needs a host.
but not quite dead <--- but they replicate, evolve, move, swim, dance, and sing in over 200 different languages!

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] April 13 2005 8:29 AM EDT

More riddles please. (I don't care who won that one.)

Mythology April 13 2005 8:52 AM EDT

"cold" isnt alive :p surely?
Bast, some of us would like to at least know the answer :)

mourge420 April 13 2005 9:52 AM EDT

okay, although UT defended this one till death (rather well i might add) sirbubblerap is the first to post the right answer of "virus", but for his zealous of defending it UT wont go away empty handed.

next one folks.
I'm a hero who answered riddles like you.
incestious yet a murderer.
a king and a pesent.
I really should have listened to that old man
for I'll never see again.
who am I?
(extra 1k if you can tell me his riddle and the answer)

Sevare April 13 2005 10:20 AM EDT

I absolutly butcher names...Odeipus

SBW April 13 2005 11:09 AM EDT

Riddle of the Sphinx
What creature walks on all fours in the morning, on 2 in the afternoon, and on 3 at night? Man
Oedipus i think it's spelled

DarthCat April 13 2005 11:28 AM EDT

Yup, it's Oedipus Rex, and the riddle is, in fact, the riddle of the sphinx. Dang, wish I'd seen this earlier. That's what I get for having to school, eh?

DarthCat April 13 2005 11:34 AM EDT

That's also the right riddle, btw. Give the men their money.

Sukotto [lookingglas] April 13 2005 1:26 PM EDT

A killer that we can all catch but none of us controll. [sic] both a tool and a weapon. so great it can kill any man or animal yet so small can penetrate a pinhole never alive but not quite dead

Riddles usually refer to something obliquely while pointing at an obvious (but wrong) answer. "A virus" is too obvious.

I know I'm too late for this one, but I think "A thought" or "An idea", might be better.

Sukotto [lookingglas] April 13 2005 1:29 PM EDT

I post might sound sarcastic though I didn't mean it that way.
I meant that "A thought" or "An idea" might be better answers.

Undertow April 13 2005 1:31 PM EDT

I can't believe I missed that SirBubbleWrap post, I swear to god it wasn't there before. I think he hacked the forum for 10k.

Butters Almighty April 13 2005 11:39 PM EDT

i didnt see his post either, i thought u had it undrtow, i remember bc i was upset that i saw one that i knew and u had posted the answer b4 me :'(

mourge420 April 14 2005 8:49 PM EDT

Chargerz-Back April 14 2005 8:51 PM EDT

48Zach April 14 2005 8:52 PM EDT

mourge420 April 14 2005 8:55 PM EDT

sorry zach, yes you did.

my humble aplogies.

48Zach April 14 2005 8:57 PM EDT

sssimmo April 14 2005 9:03 PM EDT

what if some is blind from birth...i dont think they could see it...or could they....hmmm?

Sevare April 14 2005 11:08 PM EDT

a memory

Maelstrom April 14 2005 11:31 PM EDT

mistakes: you learn best from making mistakes, you often pay for your mistakes, everyone makes mistakes, and... umm, we all see people make mistakes?

Sevare April 14 2005 11:32 PM EDT

well a memory, mistakes and past experience can all fall into the same answear I suppose :P

Maelstrom April 14 2005 11:35 PM EDT

but you can't see a memory! you can remember a memory, but it's never the same as the real thing

Mythology April 14 2005 11:38 PM EDT

Well just a "teacher" fits :p But somehow Im guessing thats not the answer...

Sevare April 14 2005 11:38 PM EDT

sure you can see it, unless your imagination and all has been completely rotted by modern technology :P

Undertow April 15 2005 3:46 AM EDT

Fire. The best way not to burn yourself? Get burned. Not always free, medical expenses are really bad. Everyone has seen one, everyone has used one, especially if your a dirty smoker ;).

mourge420 April 15 2005 10:03 AM EDT

getting really close gang. undertow has the most original so far, made me laugh quite a bit so that's something else i owe him for.

Relic April 15 2005 10:09 AM EDT

experience or your experiences

AdminG Beee April 15 2005 10:31 AM EDT

best teacher. not always free. everyone has used one. and everyone has seen one.

I'm assuming "not always free" doesn't necessarily mean there's a financial cost.

In the wonderful world of CB I'd guess the answer would be "Mentor".

In an ideal world however it would be nice if the answer was "Father and/or Mother".

mourge420 April 17 2005 4:48 PM EDT

thank you folks for the wonderful responses.
glory had it with experiances.
new one coming soon
