Shade's Unreal Tournament Level Design. (in Off-topic)

I have been busy making maps for Unreal Tournament ('99 GoTY edition) for almost half a year now and have learned a lot of things.
I now have a 'project' of making a map (will be the first i bring out in public) with the only handicap of a max of 105 poly count . poly count is the amount of polygons (triangles / squares etc. shown on the screen pew view)

Nice! :)

Ahhh, maps. I did lots for Doom, Q1/2, vrey few for anything else as time was no longer permitting. Mucho fun though, I think my best work was done in those original wads... too bad d00d couldn't jump :p

Not bad, starting to take shape. Some enviro stuffs and it will be much improved.

Care to share a bit about what the level is all about? At least what kind of game is meant to be played on it.

Well it is a 'normal' Death Match game.

Designed for 4-8 players with probably 6 being optimal.
The level is about... well eehm... about shooting eachother :P j/k i think i will go for a bit like an old water treatment plant or something, some water and currents in another room or some sludge on the bottom of it, interconnected to a HUGE room with a reactor in it.

about the environmental stuff, atm im almost on the half of the maximum allowed poly count so i can still add some detail but not too much.

cool, mapping is great fun. very time consuming, but fun..
mapping to certain criteria is an awesome challenge and it looks as though you're doing great with so little to work with.

a couple of our challenges were 1024 cube (make a map inside 1024 unit cube), speed mapping, or # of texture limits & geometry comps.

(I was heavily into quake3 mapping for a few years - http://planetquake.com/psi)

good work, keep it up.

I surely hope you're not going to place a "nuke" weapon spawn on that map, that narrow chamber would be a killing field...

AdminShade May 26 2005 10:41 AM EDT

well the nuke thing will be inside of those tanks ;) with a cute trap in it
