Gyaxx grows into britches (in General)

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] May 9 2005 12:36 PM EDT

I may not get many kudos from this post, but a couple milestones happened all at once and I am pretty proud of them. I started Jan 1st with Sefton (now called Elementals) and 4 farms. After making the wrong choice of ToF and DM for my team, I scrapped Sefton sometime in Feb. I think, and put my tank gear on a single mage farm, Gyaxx, who was about 10k or less PR. I got a 10K ToA, made him a tank, and I was off an running.

Yes, I do well in camping the store, and yes this gives me a decided advantage when upping my networth, but let me remind you all, that my methods are available for everyone to use. You might have less patience and less skill at it than I, but I do nothing that anyone of you could not do yourself.

So Gyaxx is a pretty tough character thanks to my networth, BUT I did just hit these two milestones basically at the same time.

Sign of Earth lvl 200,220 (my named ToA) From a baby 10K to over 200K lvl, all home grown on Gyaxx.

Score / PR / MPR: 452,400 / 307,062 / 231,937 (Gyaxx)
From 10K PR to over 300K PR in about two months.

The combination of these milestones and my high networth allows me to compete with the toughest characters in the game. So to all of those starting out now, and wondering if you can catch and compete with those that have a head start of a month or two on you, I am proof that even without the newbie bonus you can get there with some hard work and intelligence.

P.S. To all of those who feel that I have an advantage because of my camping to increase NW and are waiting with baited breath for a NW to PR nerf, just so you know, it won't change one bit that I can or cannot kill you, just how much they pay me for your carcass.

congrats..... and i should also add that while camping he is missing out on xp. there is a trade off but people fail 2 realize this

Best. Quote. Evar.

More power to you Sefton. I'm glad your persistance and dedication to the game has paid off. Nice work++

careful, might throw your back out if you continue patting it so hard...

Speaking as somebody who you stomped on the way up (my now farm character Raven) I can testify that it wasn't necessarily the networth that did me in - your constant use of seekers was the thing that stopped me in my tracks. An obvious use of an item in a world of mages but who says strategy has to be obscure?

Networth isn't all - you need strategy to be successful in the longer term. Congrats!

LumpBot May 9 2005 12:57 PM EDT

It's not your NW at all, it's where your NW is at. Very clever in upgrading certain items higher than other. I applaud your persistance and ability to kill me.

Congrat sefton

For all of those that think NW should be nerf cuz of sefton.Sefton did not set the market price of any rare item.He use all the actual tool concept there is to make is account bigger is up too you to make the same or do better.

Woohoo Sefton

Todd May 9 2005 2:14 PM EDT

I'm the first to admit that I don't "get" store camping at all. But, what boggles my mind even more is that Sefton was able to camp to get an insane amount of rares, AND be able to fight enough to get his PR within 2 months.

My hat's off to you Sefton. Very well done.

So, what are the rest of us not "getting"? (Or are you online 24/7?)

wldflr May 9 2005 2:48 PM EDT

Todd, I'm Sefton's wife. I can tell you he's not really online 24/7. He sleeps maybe 3 hours a night, so it's actually 21/7! He has worked hard, studied other teams, other strats, spent amazingly way to many hours plotting his rise to the top. :) Great job, my SuperHero!

Synco May 9 2005 3:04 PM EDT

Congrats, Sefton!!! =)

Jason Bourne May 9 2005 3:17 PM EDT

heh, nice sefton, i read your post, and everyone said you were doing good, so i decided i was going to do something liike it, when i inspected your character...

my strat is like, the poor mans version of yours...lol

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] May 9 2005 3:32 PM EDT

And your score to PR ratio looks good because of it SoulCaliber. In our currently mage-centric CB, the tank/wall is a solid combo and a few meat shield enchanters never hurts. (although I will tell you that your rise in power will be slower because of the multiple minions)

Todd, Yah I have to admit I am addicted. I do play TOOO much. I have been incredibly lucky camping too! Some people might easily spend as much time as me camping, but the zen/karma method has worked well for me so far. Also I will admit I have leveraged a LOT of my cb1$ for cb2$ and my cb1 char is not doing so well because of it. Unfortunately, I like my cb1 char too much to totally scrap it for cb2, or shoot my nw here could be a lot higher. Basically I take all the $ I earn on cb1 and buy cb2 $ with it, which is an advantage.

In the end, it all comes down to scale. I have one decent camp a week and I can buy all my BA everyday, for 7 days. So I basically buy my BA everyday (I keep about 100 in reserve on average in case of a camping emergency :)

Since the cost of BA no matter if you have the largest PR in game is SO small by comparison to the price a pair of Beleg's can get you, then basically burning all you BA and buying more is not much of a pocket book hit. Also before Jon added the tattoo PR to PR I was getting RIDICULOUS rewards, and took full advantage of that :) (I guess that was my newbie bonus in a way) So I think those all factored into my quick rise, that and a solid stratedgy I do not do much retraining on which maximizes my rewards using the gear I have. Lastly, the fact that I am only 300K PR and can fight people with close to 500K PR means my rewards are on average are better than most. (which is of course why everyone wants NW rolled into PR)

I will be the FIRST to admit a lot of my sucess is luck, but then again I am shooting for luck, and it pays off! Ask the new players on cb2, I have been seriously pumping up the karma of late :)

Reebok May 9 2005 3:38 PM EDT

I don't know what I should say more, congrats Sefton, or my condolances Wldflr.

=)

Yes, an outstanding strat if I say so myself :-)
