Need help making a mix (in Off-topic)

gooey muppet June 2 2005 2:13 PM EDT

Hey all, i'm making a mix cd with a very specific theme. And of course i'm having trouble finding enough songs to fill it.

I'm going for a theme about transformation/ghosts. But frankly, right now i'll go for anything about ghost's im so desperate.

If anyone could help with any suggestions that would be great.

QBJohnnywas June 2 2005 2:14 PM EDT

what kind of music?

AdminQBVerifex June 2 2005 2:21 PM EDT

Doug E Fresh - Spirit

do the songs have to have lyrics? i.e. can the song sound ghostish?
i might be able to find one, but don't know what kind of music youre looking for

QBJohnnywas June 2 2005 2:31 PM EDT

A few tunes - a lot of different styles here - and all should be quite easy to find... so long as you don't look for illegal downloads.....

Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon
Thriller - Michael Jackson
Changes - David Bowie
Ghosts - Japan
Haunted - The Pogues (from the 'sid and nancy' movie soundtrack)

But it does depend on what sort of music you're after...

gooey muppet June 2 2005 2:52 PM EDT

yeah, type of music would help.

Im really looking for music with lyrics, ive been directed to a lot of atmospheric pieces that are great.....but they just dont fit.

To give you an idea I'll just put all the possible tracks that may or may not make the cut.

Clutch~ghost
Tori Amos~happy phantom
Tupac~ghost
Your Little Ponies~Booberry
Misfits~crimson ghost
Live~ghost
Tool~46+2
Black Sabbath~after forever
?~suicide is painless
A Perfect Circle~vanishing
They might be giants~dead
Radiohead~street spirit

Transformation, huh?

...turning Japanese, I think I'm turning Japanese, I really thinks so...

disturbed down with the sickness :)

gooey muppet June 2 2005 6:02 PM EDT

Down with the sickness is about going insane, this would be a much easier project if it were about insanity. I'm looking for more of a dying/ghost type thingy.

Maelstrom June 2 2005 6:08 PM EDT

Note: "Suicide is painless", music is by Johnny Mandel, lyrics by Mike Altman.

There are lots of Joy Division songs about the dead, death, etc - notably "Dead Souls", which NIN covered for The Crow s/t.

I'll try to dig up some other songs later, when I'm at home...

[Redneck RV] Truc June 2 2005 6:09 PM EDT

Google this: "Song That Teaches How Pollywogs Become Frogs""...LOL

QBBast [Hidden Agenda] June 2 2005 6:12 PM EDT

Okay, "haunted lives, ghosts of things dead and gone -- relationships, youth, etc." or "Wooo wooooo -- Scooby Doo style ghosts"?

That is, anything by Sarah McLachlan? Or The Misfits' "Monster Mash"?

[Redneck RV] Truc June 2 2005 6:13 PM EDT

Sorry for previous post pollution.

How about "Seasons In The Sun" by Terry Jacks?

Pretty much the quintessential song of death/dying back in the day.

Undertow June 2 2005 8:43 PM EDT

Hotel California yo.

And he means "about the transformation from living to dead, and life once you have left your body." So no Skooba Dew. ;)

Also, lot's of Zombie and Manson come close but don't quite cut it, IMHO. When I recommended Suicide is Painless, I meant to Manson cover.

Sukotto [lookingglas] June 2 2005 10:22 PM EDT

Hmm... tough. Here are some in the order I think of them

The original Transformers theme song

Loreena McKennitt "Bonny Swans" (Ghost of a girl tells her story)

Sting "Dance Alone" (Dancing with ghosts)

Sting "Ghost Story" (I can't remember if that one has lyrics).

Barenaked Ladies "The Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel"

Eric Clapton "Tears in Heaven" (Singing to his son's spirit)

Tragically Hip "38 Years Old" (Ghost of an old crime)

Peter Gabrial "Kiss the Frog" (Inspired from the traditional transformation story)
