Lag? But I have broadband! (in General)

Yes, it's intended as a ridiculous attention-grabbing statement. Not a huge problem, but...

It's only CB that does it, but sometimes I experience 15-45 second delays while using the site. Today it got so bad that I got the dread "Operation timed out" popup. Funny part about it all is, the problem lasts for 10 minutes at a time then suddenly everything is silky smooth again (like right now). It usually only happens once or twice a day.

Whenever I have troubles I test out other sites and the problem is definitely restricted to carnage blender 1 and 2. Could this be a problem with my DNS or is this most likely just ordinary server lag? Or another way to ask is, does anyone else (broadband users please) experience this problem or is it my end?

I have highspeed DSL and I got the same problem today.

Server side problem... I don't know if it ever happen to me, even with my slow connection speed. Except that cache flush, but it's not what you mean.

No, not the nightly.

Well, at least I know it's not me. Thanks =)

no lag here, must be your ISP that is doing strange things...

Undertow June 8 2005 6:01 PM EDT

I get it too sometimes, both at my house and at work. When it happens, look at the number of people in chat. Is CB busy?

csraven June 9 2005 11:33 AM EDT

hey buddy... im running Comcast Cable at such a high speed that 160BA is gone in less than 1min... and my comp's hard ware is all new state of the art stuff... granted it still runs winXP (boooo) but hey... thats is why i was able to buy all my BA today and spend it in less than 3 min...

and i still get lag frequently throughout the day... im begining to believe that there is something wrong with CB and not our comps...

maulaxe June 9 2005 2:18 PM EDT

you lie!

there is nothing wrong with CB! nothing!!

not even battle cries!

the lag should only make you appreciate the game more - it provides a momentary glimpse of what a world without CB would be like. You must know thine enemy before you can fight back!

Todd June 9 2005 2:56 PM EDT

If someone can rip through 160 BA in less than a minute, then they are getting almost 3 fights in every _second_. Combine that with the realities of what your fight list would have to look like make me doubt the claim.

chernobyl June 9 2005 3:41 PM EDT

Yeah, I know csraven's fight list is over thirty long; I've seen it!
As far as a minute; make it five. Once again, I've seen it.

maulaxe - yes, it does make me appreciate the game more!
CB2 is still a "good game"! Lag is always going to happen even on broadband (told you the subject was ridiculous) and I don't think that the extremely rare event of "operation timed out" will ever be a detriment to CB.

I was really curious if some people didn't experience this type of lag because I think it's related to my DNS servers possibly having trouble locating the domain. Shade and csraven have confirmed that it not a system issue. Spaceman and Undertow have confirmed that it is not limited to my connection. I'm pretty sure that my original guess is right, which really means I can't do anything about it anyway =) But, I was mostly just curious.
