Change ToJ to a ToA? plus question about ToA HP.. (in General)

Shidoshi June 20 2005 3:06 PM EDT

Hi. I'm wanting to change my ToJ into a ToA. I've got:

Miyamoto Musashi: 70,000 hp 60,000 str 60,000 dex
Archery (12,000 ish)

+ 4 minions with VA, AMF & EC between them.

Now, my ToJ is about lvl 75,000. What I want to know is;

- What is the HP comparison between the two tattoo types. Am I going to lose out on the Tattoo's Meat Shield benefits?
- Would changing over cover the extra damage inflicted I would lose from the ToJ when I end up doing more damage with the ToA?

Also, do you think this would help me to use the XP on Musashi for just HP, archery & maybe adding Bloodlust later on, if I no longer need to put up STR & DEX, or at least cut back on them greatly.

Thank you for your input in advance...

Ok, ToA does not Grant HP, nor is it a minion tattoo, all a ToA does is add to your STR and DX.

Well here are some numbers for you.

1) archery should be at 1/4 your st. Currently you have it at 1/5 meaning that you do not have your archery at 1.00. Adding the ToA would make this problem worse because your st would be higher (see below)

2) after the 5% that the tat artist will take from the tattoo your new ToA would be at lvl 71250 (going off the 75k you listed it as) at this level it would bring your st and dx both to over 100k. The increased dx will lead to less physical hit landing against you and more of yours landing. The added st will make the hits you land do more damage

3) you asked about HP comparison between the 2 tattoos and i am not sure what you are looking for since ToA does not have nor does it give HP.

Overall, I would say that a ToA would benefit you more than the ToJ does. Your tank will do more damage more often and being able to concentrate your xp into HP and archery will be very good in the long run.

You will, however, need to train archery up to 1.00 (or 1/4 your st,) which will take a little while, it will greatly increase your damage by insuring that you attack with your bow in all three ranged rounds. Archery should be your first priority regardless of whether or not you change you tat over.

Finally something you said sounded a little odd and i just wanted to clarify, on the off chance that it is needed. You can not add Bloodlust later on if you plan to keep archery.

Hope this helps

ToA doesn't give HP, but does give 60% of its level to DX and 70% to St.

ToJ does train HP, and is a familiar (which ToA isn't) and trains around 35% HP (i think)

ok,so there's no actual HP on the ToA.

I'm putting all my XP into archary to get my 1/4 requirement.

I was planning on putting it up even further to ready myself for the ToA, but the more I wait, the more my Str will be, & the harder it will be to keep up with archery, true? Or a better question would be, will it make a difference if the ToA is done now, & and Str goes up, or later, when the Tattoo is stronger & gives me more Str anyway?

Now, shade, you're telling me it's not possible to have Archery & bloodlust on the same minion, or it's not worth it because of (insert reason here)...

Great input people, thanks again. Please keep it coming.

Archery and Bloodlust are both "skills"

And yes you will have to keep training archery because it goes along with the STR of the ToA, so what i did after putting my ToA on was to train nothing but archery till it got to 1/4 of the ToA+trained STR (total STR) and then just do 1/4 Archery and Max HP each time i train.

I'm telling you it's impossible to have both Archery and Bloodlust because both are skills, you can only learn 1 skill per minion (and skills only affect the minion that has it trained)

you can however gain a (small) amount of archery by equipping Belegs gloves

also a thing you wanted to know:

- Would changing over cover the extra damage inflicted I would lose from the ToJ when I end up doing more damage with the ToA?

This depends purely on the weapons you use...

a ToJ Familiar doesn't have a ranged weapon you can use one with a ToA.
But the difference in damage would need to come purely from the ST you add with the ToA.

i tried the transition myself and havent mourned over it yet...

Since you do not have defensive enchantments (GA, AS, Haste, GS) except VA, I would say that the added minion from ToJ is not so beneficial.
Moreover, you already have a wall minion (Nobunaga), and a ToJ is essentially another wall.

In conclusion my opinion is that you would be better off with a ToA.
By the way, the ToA also gives some bonus to the plus to hit.

Thank you all for you contributions, they have been really helpful.

Looks like ToA, all the way!
