Idea: New forum: complaints (in General)

Undertow June 21 2005 3:00 PM EDT

I'm so sick of walking into the forum and seeing 50 posts about the NUB or SMTOEs or the ELB, or evasion or whatever else people are whining about.

I, personally, roll with the changes, good or bad, and have a good time. And I like to talk to people about well, anything, other than complaints about the game.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that's sick of seeing all the belly aching. I'd switch of general, but still about 30% of it is stuff worth reading. Or I'd stay out of the forum completely, but remember:

CB is supposed to be a community first, and a game second.

60% of those complaints would be FORS...
30% of those complaints would be newbies complaining about bot checks and the necessity of them.
10% of those complaints would be good things that come before a changemonth which could also be put into general because many people want to talk about them with eachother.

which makes the forum not needed.

Not all complaints are bad. I remembers these complaints about CB2:

+Tattoo does not take experience (turned out to be untrue and fixed subsequently)
+ToJ rentals (when stopped, top ToJs has >3X experience compare to the non-ToJ)
+ToJ HP/DEX/STR instrinsic value too high (turned out ToJ trains x into HP, DEX, STR instead of 1/x).
+SMTOE (not anymore)

1. if you want to hear about changes leave up the forum.

Personally, to sacrafice the other 90% of posts that already exist, just in general, I'd forgo knowing anything about change month.

Undertow June 21 2005 3:13 PM EDT

Yes, they were all fixed, at the cost of 50 forum posts a piece and much much much whining that I had to sift through to find people who just wanted stratagy help.

You realize you're attacking a grand old CB tradition with your idea?

CB has always been the place where dead horses get ground into a pulp, a new forum isnt gonna change that. People are always gonna whine, sift through their pointless posts like the rest of us Tow.

Undertow, I assume that you realize your post itself is a complaint, and therefore all your considerations apply to it?
If you think that posting a complaint and/or a proposal of change can accomplish something and is worth the price of sifting through some posts, your point is moot.
If, on the other hand, you think that "whining" does not accomplish anything, or it is too high an annoyance to suffer for the changes, you should not have posted in the first place.

Moreover, many of the people that give strategy advice are the same that are vocal about what they perceive as defects of the game.

On the other hand, I agree that seeing 2-3 open threads on the same subject (now it is either NW/PR link or NUB) is annoying.

I think Jon should create a new email address, where all the complaints can be sent. Something like "complaints@carnageblender.com," obviously no one will read the complaints as they be filtered intot he trash folder on arrival :P

Kill me, the irony is too much!

I think that correct use of the Subject field of the forum post, as nicely displayed in this post, can go a long way of avoiding unwanted posts.

I would even go one step further and ask for an implementation of an open rating system for posts and posters.

There are quite some nice system out there that can get this forum more friendly and effective then currently is the case.

Since Undertow started the thread, who's going to say "Burn the stupid idea"? :-D

I think you have a good intention Undertow, but don't think such a forum makes sense. A complaints forum would just encourage people to complain even more. Plus, I don't think we have so much traffic in General that the complaints significantly impact people's ability to find the posts they care about.

I'd rather have a killfile that allows us to filter out the stuff we don't care about.
This thread is closed to new posts. However, you are welcome to reference it from a new thread; link this with the html Idea: New forum: complaints
