Proposed TBF Tweak (in General)

Relic June 23 2005 1:25 PM EDT

If I understand the properties of the TBF, it is that I am surrounded by flames and when attacked in melee, those flames burn my attacker(s).

If this is the case, then should not those flames burn my attackee(s) when I attack them in melee? How can the flames only hurt them when they attack and not when I get close enough to attack?

Example.
Line A: Bounce's vorpal blade went snicker-snack! [534]
Should be a burning line like Line C Here.
Line B: Bounce's vorpal blade went snicker-snack! [397]
Should be a burning line like Line C Here.
Line C: Thesaurus rent Bounce [372]
Line D: Thesaurus burns from the flames surrounding Bounce (361)

Because the Balrog only flares up defensively? Just taking a shot...

Come on folks, this Tattoo is by far the weakest and should have a little tweaking and I think this would be a good change while not overpowering it and unbalancing things.

Undertow June 24 2005 11:22 AM EDT

And doubling the amount of damage it does isn't unbalancing?

AdminShade June 24 2005 11:25 AM EDT

The Tattoo of Balrog flame is designed to only damage people that attack you in melee.

but imo it should be working for every melee attack, and not just 1 time per round.

"The Tattoo of Balrog flame is designed to only damage people that attack you in melee."

Well put friend... besides, WHY would you want your tat to be able to hurt you as well... that totally defeats the purpose of a familiar...

Relic June 24 2005 12:06 PM EDT

The TBF is NOT a familiar first of all. Second of all, I am saying that the TBF should hurt your opponent when you attack in melee as well as when they attack you.

I like your idea, Glory.

as for unbalancing, that depends on the degree. TBF needs help and this would be a good way to do so.

My only reservation is that it would turn an item that defends against melee into one that aids offensive melee. but it certainly makes more sense. Anyone who gets near the minion, whether attacking or attacked by would be burned once during the round. I don't know if it should be on a per blow basis though since it is not the weapon that burns.

My tattoo was a TBF for a couple of weeks . At around 100k level it was only dishing out about 30k damage when struck in melee. And the FB protection was barely noticeable most of the time. But I liked it and I always liked the CoBF and I suspect I may revert when my tattoo is a higher level. But it really makes me smile, laugh even at the people who are complaining that it isn't powerful enough after all the complaints the CoBF got about being overpowered!

I think if it was more powerful as a defensive item it would work better. I don't think it needs to be more offensive. Remember it no longer negates enchantments or skills which once it hits harder will make it a lot more useful than the CoBF was and certainly more versatile.

Up it's flare amount or make it flare whenever you are hit in melee instead of once every round and it would be more effective.

ahh i see... sorry i was mis-interpreting the info... my bad...

Then yes i do believe that it should do damage when attacking... i mean its Balrog Flame, isnt it... why should it only be deffensive? if a fire is burning, it destroys everythin in it right? by the same logic, everything that the fire spreads to is destroyed right?

QBsutekh137 June 24 2005 1:52 PM EDT

It's true, the Balrog was definitely on fire BEFORE Gandalf got it mad. *smile* Those flames looked like they could thrash whether something him him or not. *smile*

If you want to fix the ToBF add it's fire protecting ability to other minions in the team...ala the ToE.

Very true... I think what would make the most sense would be dealing damage once per round, per minion involved in melee with the wearer - regardless of whether or not it was defending or attacking. So if there was melee combat, the damage would be dealt - but not twice if they were both attacking each other.

ex: minion A has the tat and a melee weapon. minion B is just a mage. in melee rounds, B is dealt fire damage (only once per round, regardless of multiple hits)
if both A and B use melee weapons, there would also only be fire damage dealt once.

now that would probably require more coding... I'm just saying it would make sense.

lol i re-read it and i'm just saying the same thing in different words - at least i quoted my source (no cries of "BURN THE PLAGIARIZER!" please, you know who you are)
