Maelstrom, not even remotely close to the pop scene. This is more like catchy internet songs built around computer/game humor. Much like "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" and other great internet-only hits.
The pop seen on the other hand is sticking with Rap, R&B, and Rock, with the occasional pop-like Country music. On top of that they will provide you with only the most beautiful people, or occasionally stars form the past who use to be beautiful. I don't even see this song being a club hit.
And you thought music became popular cause you liked it, hahahaha. No, it becomes popular because of a pretty face and a lot of money. Only on rare occasion will a group like the White Stripes be allowed to see the top ten charts, and that's only after some promotion from MTV. Them being the on top of all the college music charts didn't do much for them at all.
If you become content to stick with the music you knew and loved from the 70' or 80's or even 90's, well then your just making the music business' job easy by being predictable. They feed you a couple hundred songs in your teen years and then get to milk you over and over again with those same few hundred songs for the rest of your life with greatest hit albums and classic rock stations. I hope none of you will allow yourselves to be a victim of such mockery.
Click the link and listen for a minute or two. If you don't like it, well then there is still something out there for you that you will like and it's brand spanking new. This coming from a guy who has worked for radio.
