Graphics Issue (in Off-topic)

Staind2b July 13 2005 12:37 PM EDT

I recently bought a new video card, an a new computer actually. System Specs: Athlon 64 3400+, 512 MB of RAM, 300 watt PSU, and the gainward power pack Nvidia 6800 ultra 2100. The problem I have is with the graphics of the game "Battlefield 2" and I am not sure as to what is causing the problem. My guy's gun seems to be "stretched" and there are these strange lines everywhere. I tested another game, nothing demanding, and it works fine. Someone suggested it was the powersupply, but on the video card box it says "minimum: 300 watt PSU" this is one of the reasons I got this video card, because I have a 300 PSU, if I had a greater one, I would've gone for the GT version. Please help. 2B

i have a AMD 64 3200 +, 2 GB PC-3200, X700PRO, and a 450 watt power supply. maybe it is just the power supply and ram?

are you running the latest drivers and directx version?

Staind2b July 13 2005 12:59 PM EDT

Do you have the old drivers installed, or the old ones?

Chargerz-Back July 13 2005 1:05 PM EDT

if those are the only two choices...it is pobably the old ones. =P

try more RAM and make sure you have the newest drivers

RAM should have nothing to do with stretching and lines. Get the newest drivers for the card, directx, and the game. If that doesn't fix it, play around with the graphical settings.

lol, I totaly didn't see that error I made :P I meant, do you have the old or new drivers for your video card. Also, I have the newest drivers, and directx for the card and such. That is why I don't understand what is happening. I don't know if this could cause the problem, but I installed the new drivers off the Nvidia website BEFORE I put the CD in that had the old drivers. Just to let you know, i did NOT install the old drivers. I am curious if the old drivers on the CD have something that the new drivers need. Again, I never installed the old drivers.

Brandon, i have the latest drivers, and still have the problem, and ive messed with the settings up and down, and nothing helped...lol

Don't know what to tell you. Unfortunately, cards vary too much from manufacturer to manfacturer to really know any specifics as to why the problem is occurring. But the problems you two are having are the exact reason why I almost always go with PNY cards over the cheaper options.

I just found something.....http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.aspx?catid=31&threadid=66663&enterthread=y....It seems to be an incompatible combo with certain via chipsets, and the later Nvidia video cards. Oh well, I'll just have to see how this plays out. Thanks for your helps guys and gals.
