New item considerations (in General)

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] July 22 2005 12:17 PM EDT

As we near the end of change month, I wanted to add this idea to the new item suggestions.

Now that the Tulkas' add to ST based upon the plus of the item, we need an AC based glove. As it is now, a pair of the biggest TG's in the game sits on my 20 ST Wall because AC to NW wise no other hand gear can touch them. So without much more ado,

Name: Mithril Gloves
Base: AC 8
Upgrade costs equal to BoM (same base, +20 BoM is about 2.3mil, +17 TG's is 1.9mil for comparison)
-2% DX -5% Magic. No penalty to UC (give those UC chars another option than HG's)

Post comments on this item, or your own items as you will :)

Yeah, I can see your point. You feel that you have wasted effect. However, if you buy a DVD player that also functions as a clock, did you waste money because you already have a clock hanging on your wall? No, because they all come standard with clocks. I guess, even though I partially would like to have gloves with higher AC than a pair of TGs for my tank, that it's ok to have an item that does both.

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] July 22 2005 12:57 PM EDT

Well I am not saying to get rid of TG's, the DVD and clock still work, meaning you still get the AC effect from the TG's on your tank, Im saying why have a DVD when you want a DVR :)

I can see your point Sefton. How much would it cost to pump up Cesti?

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] July 22 2005 1:28 PM EDT

I'm not totally certain, but if I remember correctly it gets very cost prohibitive past +12 on the Cesti. Here is data I can supply from Shade's site

(+11) $55,577 TG's = total AC 17
(+10) $77,546 Cesti = total AC 15

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] July 22 2005 1:29 PM EDT

Yeah I saw the same data, but that doesn't look too bad, really. They may give better ac for the money if pumped up

One thing I've been wondering: who needs Elven Gloves?

Melee-tanks use Tulkas, archer-tanks use Belegs, and UC-tanks use Helms, walls can use any, but need something better. Enchanters and mages have no need for DX, so it's a waste to invest the money in buying EGs.

EGs have the additional disadvantage of being unforgeable, so you have to pay full price to upgrade them.

Mages and enchanters are better off using leather gloves; consider the upgrade costs:

LG+17 $2,190,252 - total AC = 18
EG+17 $10,975,213 - total AC = 20

Normally M's and E's have only 20 DX, so the 17% extra DX translates to only three more points. Who's going to pay over 8mil more for only 3 points of DX?

QBJohn Birk [Black Cheetah Bazaar] July 22 2005 1:54 PM EDT

I see your point, but in my case I use EG's on my ToA tank to get more DX because the ToA adds disproportional ST to DX.

I need Elven Gloves on my character...

one thing I don't like is the big dexterity pen, its bigger than the magic pen and it's for a tank anyway.

Phaete July 22 2005 3:02 PM EDT

Bad idea to get rid of EGs.

Strength focus = more damage to enemy/less to yourself
Dexterity focus = more hits/chances to hit for yourself and less hits/chances to hit for your enemy.

Both can achieve roughly the same result, but i rather concentrate on dexterity then strength.

I agree that we are now missing some AC equivalent item (The adam of the gloves), but i think the penalties should be heavier like -5% DX, -10% Magic and -5% UC

QBRanger July 22 2005 3:32 PM EDT

Personally I use EGs for the archery skill bonus rather than the dex bonus.

[T]Vestax July 22 2005 4:04 PM EDT

UC tanks often use EG's for the skill bonus as well, as do people who try to make highly evasive tanks, or tanks that are non-ToA since they need the DX boost to hit the opponents ToA Tank. There are many reasons to choose EG over TG.

As for needing High AC gloves, I say yes since I cringe to see ST boosting gloves wasted on a wall. There are a lot of Tanks out there that are dying for a pair and the fact that they are being used for both walls and tanks is the only reason why I see them costing more then EG's in the first place.

GET RID OF TULWARS ET ALL!!! Useless items... :(

[-war-] July 23 2005 6:42 AM EDT

Why not just add an adament shield :)

ac being 18? :)

Maelstrom July 23 2005 9:40 AM EDT

Personally I use EGs for the archery skill bonus rather than the dex bonus.
--QBRanger, July 22 2005 3:32 PM ED

What archery skill bonus? It's not mentioned in the item stats...

I suppose those are enough reasons to keep the EGs. But aside from tradition, why should they be unforgeable?

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] July 23 2005 9:58 AM EDT

Any skill (UC, BL, Archery and Evasion) is modified by any armours dexterity +/-.

Maelstrom July 23 2005 10:13 AM EDT

It's not that I don't believe you, but I don't see that mentioned anywhere in the Wiki/Help/FAQS.

Phaete July 23 2005 10:55 AM EDT

Google knows it ALL

Try substituting www with CB1 or CB2 if the message seems to be deleted.

No. 5 gives the post about the introduction for skills:

btw, I should perhaps point out that skills are affected by armor DX penalty, not magic penalty.

I'm not a wiki whack, so someone else may put it there :)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] July 23 2005 2:53 PM EDT

Or you could just equip something like a double chain mail on a minion with a trained skill, and watch their skill lower...

;)
