Name my Assassin's Crossbow (in Contests)

QBBarzooMonkey August 31 2005 12:16 AM EDT

Think of a name that rocks, that you are willing to give up to me.

The prize: 500k, + I'll name one of your items as the 2nd item when I name my Axbow

I am the sole judge.
I'm going to be picky. It has to fit either Sensei Boopadoo or Jack The Bear.
I want to be impressed - I want to say "that's cool, I should have thought of that."
If nothing impresses me and I think of my own name, I'll give 100k as a consolation prize to my favorite that I don't use, so no one's effort is wasted.

Game on!

QBBarzooMonkey August 31 2005 12:27 AM EDT

BTW, the "Chainsaw" is a loaner. Jack The Bear normally uses an EX sword named Ursus horribilis (in case that helps)

SaintMichael August 31 2005 12:30 AM EDT

name: De-Confibbulator

Relic August 31 2005 12:30 AM EDT

Jack The Bear -

"A Rusty Bear Trap"
"A Hand-Carved Crossbow"
"An empty hunter's skull"
"A Piece of Driftwood"
"Smokey the Bears' Shovel"
"A Sticky Crossbow"
"A Honey-Covered Crossbow"
"A Crimson Thighbone"
"A Malevolent Stare"
"A Ferocious Roar!"
"A Bone Chilling Growl"

sssimmo August 31 2005 12:33 AM EDT

Assassin's Crossbow decreases DX. --->Slows down opponents -----> Paralises them.

You could call it The Wasp's Sting. As wasps paralise spiders.

sssimmo August 31 2005 12:36 AM EDT

Oh yeah...then you shoot the crap out of "Spid"

Lu Bu[willsue] August 31 2005 12:45 AM EDT

Wonderpuff August 31 2005 1:14 AM EDT

For Sensei Boopadoo

"The Fury of King An-Yang" (King An-Yang's Fury?) or perhaps "White Tiger's Bane" Below quote comes from a historical text describing the origins of the Crossbow.

"The crossbow is at present widely used by the tribes in southwest China and Indo-China. The cover of Mon-Khmer Studies. II,** for example, shows a picture of the crossbow. Early references to the crossbow in Chinese texts also point to that general region as the place of origin. The Han-shu explicitly mentioned the crossbow as one of the weapons used by the tribes inhabiting Hainan Island, and implied that it was also used by other tribes farther south. ** The Shih-chi stated that the crossbow produced in the state of Han was called “His-tzu” , which is also the name of a southern tribe.** Szechuan was famous for its crossbow. Both the Hua-yang-kuo chih and the Hou-han-shu reported that when a white tiger roamed the area of Ch’in and neighboring states, a man from Pa had to be called in, and he killed the tiger with a crossbow made of white bamboo. King An-yang, a prince from Szechuan, is said to have brought along the crossbow as he entered Vietnam when Chao T’o tried to conquer Vietnam at the end of the Ch’in dynasty; he was for a time stymied by King An-yang’s archers using crossbow.**"

For Jack the Bear, I would recommend

"A Truly Absurd Flea"

Just some thoughts.

Cygnus terriblis

QBBarzooMonkey August 31 2005 8:01 AM EDT

A Poisonous Swan. It sure sounds better in latin :)

AdminShade August 31 2005 8:08 AM EDT

exactly, it fits in with your Ursus horribilis

both latin names,
both animals,
both star signs, (ursa major)
both cool names :)

QBBarzooMonkey August 31 2005 9:52 AM EDT

Okay, here are my favorites so far:

If I give it to Sensei, His-tzu from Wonderpuff (you didn't specifically suggest it, but it came from the text you provided, so it counts)
If I give it to Jack, Cygnus terribilis from Shade

Keep 'em coming! I'll probably make a decision sometime tonight (in 12 hours or so...) unless someone "wows" me before then :)

QBBarzooMonkey August 31 2005 6:12 PM EDT

Hey guys, I have to ask your forgiveness if I don't deal with this for a few days. One of my brothers and his wife live in Biloxi, and I've been spending the last 3 days waiting on the phone, assuming that they had evacuated, and keeping my mind occupied with CB.

Well we just heard from his step-daughter, because she wanted to know if we heard from them here. She hasn't spoken to them since early Monday morning, and at that time they were staying home and riding it out, because it hadn't turned away from New Orleans yet. That means that they are now officially missing, and I'm starting to freak out. I've started calling the victim lines & checking the victim forums, and I'll be gone from here for a few days.

Thanks in advance for your support and understanding.

Ox [StephenMelinda Gates Fund] August 31 2005 9:29 PM EDT

Good luck I bet they are fine =/

Hoping for the best with your relatives.

How about naming the bow after a chess opening

"(The) Budapest Gambit" or in your case maybe swap the p/d

Fear

that definitely paralyses.

Jack the Bear shot [opponent] with Fear
[opponent] looks weaker!

there is nothing to fear but fear itself.

bow of pai mei

sssimmo September 1 2005 3:06 AM EDT

Thought I'd try my hand at some Latin :P

Crossbow of Adfero Lentes

Translation: To cause slow, inactiveness

sssimmo September 1 2005 3:19 AM EDT

Or another spin on that could be:

"Adfero Terror Lentes"

And we all know what that means, but for the dull:
terror: fright, fear, terror.

And I put one vote forward for Latin words to be in the spell checker.

sssimmo September 1 2005 3:25 AM EDT

And "Arcus" means bow, so if you do use latin just add it to it.

First, some excellent news - we got word from my brother Tom in Biloxi this morning!

His stepdaughter's father-in-law (Jeff) made it to their house, and Tom & his wife were there! They suffered some damage, but the house (which they just moved into in July) is still liveable - no power, water, phone, cellular service (any kind of services, for that matter) but still liveable.

Now they won't leave for fear of it being ransacked by looters if they leave it empty, so Jeff is going to bring them supplies back and forth from outside of the damage zone, and promises to call my father with updates whenever he returns - that's how we got word - Jeff called my Dad this morning as soon as he got into an area with cell service. What an superb man he is !!!!
What a relief! And man, do I feel for the thousands who have it much worse down there - please see MrWuss' post about donating and take it to heart!!!!

I've made a decision. The following made me say, "Cool, why didn't I think of that - so simple, yet so perfect!":

Fear

that definitely paralyses.

Jack the Bear shot [opponent] with Fear
[opponent] looks weaker!

there is nothing to fear but fear itself.

What sold it was the fight log example :)

maulaxe wins! CM me about the item naming, and I'll transfer the 500k as soon as I post this. Thanks everyone else for your suggestions & kind words!
