I know that there is a maximum, and possibly a minimum, effectiveness for the MgS depending on its +. But, my question is how can you calculate if your Mage Shield is upgraded to provide the maximum protection it can for the damage that it's minion is receiving?

A Mage Shield absorbs a minimum of N% points of Direct Damage, in which N is the enchantment level. (up to 50% max)
so +50 (unnamed) would provide the minimum of 50% direct damage absorption

Before or after AC, Prot, and Endurance? Where does the MgS fit?
So the most you can upgrade an MgS is +50? Anything above that is useless?

Not sure about that Barron. The MgS is made of two parts. A flat reduction in DD and a % reduction. It seems the game will choose whichever one is the greater of the two. The % reduction caps at 50% but I imagine the flat reduction keeps going. Against weak spells a MgS can block 100% of the damage. However, given the upgrade curve of the MgS, getting to +50 would be quite the achievement.

against a weak direct damage spell having only a mage shield won't block all damage i believe (haven't tried this myself yet) so i think that you still need AC and protection to block the rest of the damage...
