Thread Alerts! (in General)

Is there a way to add, instead of just an e-mail alert, a CM alert? It'd help me out a lot, as I use Hotmail for my email and don't check it all that often. (The fact that I use hotmail only has to do with me not receiving "you have mail" messages.) That would, for me at least, be GREATLY beneficial. Especially when watching a FS/WTB post where I want to win an item.

Nope

[T]Vestax September 10 2005 10:53 AM EDT

I flamed for this suggestion a month ago and got told that it was never going to happen. Feel free to look through my post history to find it, I'm being lazy right now.

If you are so desperately trying to win an item, just tell the seller that you're only interested if he puts it into auctions...

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] September 10 2005 1:26 PM EDT

bart that has to be the single silliest thing I've ever heard...

no better way to get an item you want than telling the seller how to sell his stuff..

QBOddBird September 10 2005 2:02 PM EDT

Well, thanks for affirming at least that its a desirable option, Vestax. As for the rest of you, wasn't expecting support anyways ;) just wanted to put the idea out there. Once again, thanks for being predictable!

if you want to win an item why don't you just use the buy now option? :P

Min bid: 200k
BIN: 1 mil

Hm...with this new feature, I could simply recieve a CM when someone posted, allowing me to know when I NEEDED to check and see if I'd been outbid or not. That way, it could be a bit more competitive - helps both the seller and the buyer.

Now tell me, why would I pay a BIN of 1 mil when I could possibly get the item for 1/5 of that price? Heck, if I get it for only 700k, that's still much better than a mil - at least for me. See, I don't spend USD on the game, and I don't make money all that quickly off of fights. So 300k is, believe it or not, worthwhile to chance it to me.

AdminShade September 10 2005 2:27 PM EDT

I was just talking in general...

Anyway using buy now of 5 times the minimum bid could be considered crazy indeed.

But most forum auctions last at least a few days, you can always let the seller know NOT to sell before you have made a final bid.

Just trying to help and think of alternatives :)

QBOddBird September 10 2005 2:29 PM EDT

Thanks :)

That is an alternative, indeed. Probably would work quite well. I simply wanted to put this idea out - after all, it seems to me like it would be helpful. I know it probably won't be implemented or anything, but I still like to get it out in the open.

RedWolf September 10 2005 7:54 PM EDT

i believe he said "especially in FS/WTB threads" not "only in FS/WTB threads"....i too believe that would be a very useful option, because i have a hotmail address that i NEVER check, except maybe once every year.

Genius [MoneyTalks] September 10 2005 7:58 PM EDT

I wouldnt mind having a CM alert instead of an email alert. I find it irritating using hotmail at the same time as CB and having to delete the alerts so many times (read them once and then theyre useless).

Undertow September 11 2005 4:16 AM EDT

Get a Gmail account, get firefox, only use your Gmail account for CB, get the Gmail notifier exstension.

Viola, an instant "you have been outbid" notifier.

If you don't want an instant notification, just open a second window with your E-mail account in it (still CB only) and check it if you want to know if you've been outbid.

All easy work arounds.

Undertow September 11 2005 4:39 AM EDT

Voila*

QBOddBird September 11 2005 10:13 AM EDT

Viola =) can't play that for anything...

I wasn't at all saying it wasn't possible to use a workaround to achieve the same results. I was simply stating that it would be very beneficial and helpful.

For me, individually, that presents a problem. This doesn't apply to anyone else. But my Firefox can't handle CB, for some reason. Yes, I've redownloaded it, have the latest Java, yes yes, continue telling me what I could do to fix it - it just doesn't like it. That's the only reason that workaround wouldn't work for me, as I'm sure it would for everyone else. I simply think it would be convenient....after all, how many of you go to your e-mail right as you get on CB so you can see if you've been outbid? Or check your e-mail simply to check and see what you notices you've recieved?

In essence, nothing *needs* to be changed. Call me lazy if you will (Zog), I just think it'd be more convenient and would be a beneficial change. =)

'after all, how many of you go to your e-mail right as you get on CB so you can see if you've been outbid?'

/me raises hand.

Especially if I want to know of anyone has posted in MY FS/WTB thread.

TheEverblacksky September 11 2005 12:09 PM EDT

i guess it would be good.... but then again if your on CB you have easy access to the threads anyay

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] September 11 2005 2:51 PM EDT

You beat me to it again.

Stop being lazy!

If on CB then you simply check it between your fight list being comatose and revived again.
On the internet but not on CB? Use the e-mail notification.
The point of the notifications is for when not on CB because you can go check yourself in just as quick timing (The extra advantage of being in the thread anyway to outbid the guy again) while on CB.
