Rewards Suggestion: Attacker vs. Defender (in General)

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] September 16 2005 10:14 AM EDT

I think it would be better if rewards were significantly increased if you won a battle as the defender. Anyone can create a favorites list and win as the attacker. But, if you win as the defender, it's even sweeter--and so should be the rewards. What do you all think?

Maelstrom September 16 2005 10:17 AM EDT

That's a pretty good idea. It's definitely an indication of a good strategy if you can win as a defender against opponents near your PR.

Of course, the most common cases where I win defending is when some lower-PR character attacks me. I don't think this case would deserve extra rewards.

QBRanger September 16 2005 10:20 AM EDT

Quite the setup for abuse.

Example. 2 players A and B.

A is a FB mage. B is a TOA tank.

normally B can beat A.

A attacks B and B wins getting better rewards as defender.

Then B equips a MgS and attack A. Letting A get great rewards.

Abuse, Abuse, Abuse.

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] September 16 2005 10:23 AM EDT

Ranger, come on! That can surely be spotted and the abusers fined. But as Maelstrom said, having a good strat and winning as a defender does merit some reward above the usual, imho.

trigun September 16 2005 10:38 AM EDT

so B will lose against A if he equips an MgS? is that right? ^_^

QBRanger September 16 2005 10:41 AM EDT

Im assuming that B is a TOA tank with a AMF enchanter. Using the MgS will negate the AMF and cause the tank character to lose.

Sry if that was not clearer.

the defender already gains an advantage within the fight to help them win and gain the winning rewards in the first place, why bother giving them better rewards on top of that?

trigun September 16 2005 10:45 AM EDT

why would one attack just to lose? even if i was paid...id rather get money and exp through winning my fights..^_^

Quark September 16 2005 11:37 AM EDT

The defender's current rewards cost no BA. That's the reward of having a good strategy in defense - rewards that didn't use any BA.

Barron [CB2BANK Investors Club] September 16 2005 11:59 AM EDT

"the defender already gains an advantage within the fight to help them win and gain the winning rewards in the first place"

With a favorites list this advantage is just about non-existent. Let's say you have a favorite list and win nearly 100% of the time. But, all of a sudden an opponent changes his strat or does something to make you lose until you realize that you have to take him off your favorite list. Those losses should be "worth more" to the opponent, and they should hurt you more as well in my opinion. That's what I'm getting at here.

QBRanger September 16 2005 12:18 PM EDT

I disagree,

The xp and cash you get from someone attacking you and losing until they realize it should be rewards enough.

Sukotto [lookingglas] September 16 2005 1:47 PM EDT

Ranger, how is your example different than the current setup?

Player A and B can already deliberately equip and unequip items to make them lose to each other.

Quark September 16 2005 2:01 PM EDT

And I actually do something similar - I've got an offensive setup and a defensive setup (minor tweaks - move the RoE to the enchanter and MgS on the tank). I do this precisely to gain rewards from people checking to see if they can now beat me or why I drew them on my offensive setup.

I like the symmetry where the rewards are constant per BA - the winner of the battle gets them regardless of who burned the BA. (Except there's a slight assymetry in that the losing challenger gets a small reward whereas the losing defender does not).

[T]Vestax September 16 2005 7:27 PM EDT

Sukotto, the difference I think Ranger is pointing out is that currently if people did that it would be no better then simply winning all the time to people you can beat. However, if you could get more rewards by working with another player so that your 1500 BA were all loses to him and his 1500 BA were all loses to you then you both would receive rewards that far exceed what winning can offer.

In some cases it simply works out to be the case that two people are incapable of beating each other due to a defenders advantage. In these cases neither team would have to change their strat in order to absorb the advantage.

As for everyone else, this would only contribute to more farms. People with actual characters that are near the top would see no change since often people will just fighting you even when you are drawing because there are no clan points they can earn that way. Plus it makes it harder to overcome them since your just feeding them more free xp and cash.

[T]Vestax September 16 2005 7:29 PM EDT

people will just *stop fighting you

Jerk September 16 2005 7:35 PM EDT

Well heres another crazy idea why not have it where you get bonus' even if you were attacked and lost. Just the same as if you attacked someone and lost you still get a scrap of a reward even though you lose. That could definitly make the game more competitive. Of course I realize the undefeatable ppl in game are gonna shoot this down because that would be soooo unfair for them but I think that could help with the defeatqable characters have a chance to close the gap to the people farming them.

[T]Vestax September 16 2005 7:41 PM EDT

That's how things use to be RaijinBull. Been here before but it sure isn't coming back.

Jerk September 16 2005 7:42 PM EDT

Ya guess that would make it too east for us "inferior" fighters ( I include myself in that group FYI) to catch up to the godly ppl. Guess that would cause too much competition in the top lol.

Defending win rewards: Money, Xp, No BA cost, happyness

Defending lose rewards: No BA cost, no cost to heal your minions. Loss in score

Defending cons: none i can think of

Attacking win rewards: Money, XP, happyness

Attacking lose rewards: Some money to pay for healing, minor XP, loss in score.

Attacking cons: Ba cost
Attacking cons: Ba cost.

YNM September 17 2005 1:37 AM EDT

sorry about the repeat

In reply to Rajin:

Jon removed rewards for losses as a defender to stop farms being made in order to earn lots of money from doing very little.
In CB1 while the community was still very much active people were gaining 2mill a week across their farms, this is probably also why he restricted it to a lot less characters.
