Paypal and Credit cards. (in General)

Currently it is the de facto but not official procedure to have the receiver eat the Credit Card fees on a transaction. I have a problem with this because:

1) You, as a seller, can't tell if a bid for $X is really a bid for $X.
2) Can get blindsided by the fees (I don't think you can refund the money and get the fees back - can you)? As a receiver you have no idea its going to happen until the transaction appears in PayPal.

For this reason a lot of folks simply won't take CC transactions.

Wouldn't it be better if when a buyer bids $X, they are obligated to make sure $X is actually received?

I'd like to take CC offers, but don't want to pay the fees myself since it is not MY account that is causing the fees.

What does everyone out there think?

Just ask $5,00 more to cover the fees :) It is PayPal that causes the fees on your account.

If you are the receiving agent in a commercial transaction, credit card processing always takes a cut. The store never gets the price on the price tag. Why should this be any different? In most cases the person getting usd for a transaction on cb2 is making out nicely anyway, wanting the fees covered by the buyer also seems a little petty imo.

I'm with Glory. If it's that much of a hassle, either post "no CC" or add on the $2 or whatever CC processing fee to all CC orders. It's the cost of doing business - the buyer is not obligated to manage the cost structure of the seller.

That being said, it would be nice (as I have done on occasion) as the buyer to post paypal CC or paypal cash.

moved this thread also to general, it is talking about paypal, not selling items :)

you're welcome to post "no CC"

if you do, please don't make your next whine about how you have less bidders...

those of us who do take credit card payments acknowledge that the CC companies are providing a useful service that we're willing to pay for.

2 forms of idea???

Another thing to note is if there is a "NO CC" restriction is must be explicit previous to the transaction and not assumed or implied as an afterthought. I am not bulimic, I can't read minds. :P

AdminJonathan September 19 2005 4:53 PM EDT

what does bulimia have to do with reading minds?

Relic September 19 2005 5:30 PM EDT

Jonathan, you have never seen "Zoolander" have you? :)

Ok im lost now about this cc thing, are you guys talking about how other paypal users pay with their credit card which causes your own paypal to receive the money and then get charged extra instead of just the 30 cent plus 2.9%?

Cuz the 30cent + 2.9% is always there it doesn't matter if it is a CC payment or directly from paypal account.

Free paypal does not accept credit cards that is all I know.
I don't see what you are fighting about.
