What's your philosophy for life? (in Off-topic)

QBJohnnywas September 22 2005 6:03 AM EDT

Mine is 'There's always another bacon sandwich'.

This is my motto (which will be on my headstone when they put me in the ground!) and roughly translates as the following:

no matter how bad life gets there's always something good around the corner, something to look forward to - be it meeting up with friends, a new album by my favourite band or just the fact that a sunny day is always in the future. Don't give up on life because there's always going to be good times ahead. Another bacon sandwich...

What's your philosophy for living/ motto?

AdminShade September 22 2005 6:07 AM EDT

The nature of awareness is existence, consciousness, bliss.

"Don't do today what you can put off till tomorrow"

"I play with fire to break the ice" -A Blink 182 lyric, but its SO true.

Aphex, your avatars are both amazing and scary as hell.

QBJohnnywas September 22 2005 7:51 AM EDT

VK, check out the recording artist 'Aphex Twin' - who I'm presuming isn't our Aphex, although... - the avatar pic is from one of his amazing videos. I'm not sure which on though - 'come to daddy' or 'windowlicker' I think...

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] September 22 2005 8:03 AM EDT

Windowlicker!!!! Scary, very scary..

And as for your pic Johnny, you know she'll win everything now!

I think mine is;

"If a jobs worth doing, it's worth doing properly". It's just with me, not many jobs are worth doing! Some would call me lazy...

QBJohnnywas September 22 2005 8:08 AM EDT

I guess now I'm married my motto has to become 'she's always right, she always wins I'm always wrong. Just stay quiet...'

Don't panic

AdminG Beee September 22 2005 8:22 AM EDT

You only get one invite to the party of life, so get up and dance while you still can and before the music starts to sound too loud.

Also, You know it's time to panic when Bart says "don't panic".

Karma....Simply put, be nice and kind to others just for the sake of being a good person and someone else will do the same towards you. Don't stress over those who you feel have wronged you, Karma will come along and kick them in the butt for you. :)

The Uncarved Block

I am just a simple man
And it's a simple song I play
I woke up this morning breathing
So I'd call this a good day
I know I share this world with you
But I don't need much to get along
A blue sky makes me happy
And the rain sounds like a song

Never lose sight of the mystery
Don't let the wonder slip away
If the sun hasn't gone cold this afternoon
I'd still call this a good day
The path I follow has no glitter
But where it leads can't be described
You can't begin to know the way
So trust the path to decide

Bridge:

Study others to become skillful
Study yourself to become wise
Don't be distracted from your purpose
And you'll find where the truth lies

Never lose sight of the mystery
Don't let the wonder slip away
If you woke up this morning breathing
You couldn't ask for a better day
Never lose sight of the mystery
Don't let the wonder slip away
If the sun hasn't gone cold this afternoon
Let's all go out and play
If the sun hasn't gone cold this afternoon
Let's all go out and play
If the sun hasn't gone cold this afternoon
Let's all go out and play
If the sun hasn't gone cold this afternoon
Let's all go out and play

No day but today.

Hope as you never hoped, Love as you never loved, Live as you never lived, or die without doing.

"The Way of the Samurai is found in death. Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily. Every day when one's body and mind are at peace, one should meditate upon being ripped apart by arrows, rifles, spears and swords, being carried away by surging waves, being thrown into the midst of a great fire, being struck by lightning, being shaken to death by a great earthquake, falling from thousand-foot cliffs, dying of disease or committing seppuku at the death of one's master. And every day without fail one should consider himself as dead."

Or should that be "The way of Carnage Blender"?

"Even if one's head were to be suddenly cut off, he should be able to do one more action with certainty. With martial valor, if one becomes like a revengeful ghost and shows great determination, though his head is cut off, he should not die."

"In the words of the ancients, one should make his decision within the space of seven breaths. It is a matter of being determined and having the spirit to break through to the other side."

With regards to the NUB;

"It is said that what is called "the spirit of an age" is something to which one cannot return. That this spirit gradually dissipates is due to the world's coming to an end. In the same way, a single year does not have just spring or summer. A single day, too, is the same. For this reason, although one would like to change today's world back to the spirit of one hundred years or more ago, it cannot be done. Thus it is important to make the best out of every generation."

My favorite;

"There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you still get the same soaking. This understanding extends to everything."

If brute force isn't working then you aren't using enough.

If it jams force it, If it breaks well it needed replacing anyway.

Karmic Mishap [Soup Ream] September 22 2005 2:49 PM EDT

No matter what you think about death you mine as well try to make the world a better place during life. If their is nothing after death, then it doesn't matter if it was a wasted effort or not; if their is someone/something, you'll be very glad that whoever tips the scales...Yama, St. Peter, Shiva saw that you at least tried; and if you have to come back at least the world will be a little better than when you left.

Also plant a garden where ever you live, it brings joy to random people, the people you love, and to you.

Don't give a philosophy major a chance to spout his rambling nonsense, a philosophy major such as myself.

Relic September 22 2005 3:13 PM EDT

I was a philosophy major as well, it is taking every amount of restraint I have to not write a big soliloquy on here. :0
