Who remembers Octonar? (in Contests)

He was a CB1 player who found a way to get more BA than he should have and chose to exploit it instead of reporting it. BAD boy! ^_^

He was a multi of two players who wrote a bot-client to play cb for him... he also used many different IP addresses for one of his players, which made the admins suspicious and finally catch him. He had definitely exploited that silly BA bug thing I was talking about too. I don't know how elaborate you want... do you want the source to his bot? j/k ^_^

He is also one of first few hardcore tourney char that make use of "smart" tactics.

I am not sure but I think he was one of the few regulars in barrier reef.

His main char Wizzrobe was doing very well.

He made the char Wizzorobe which was the largest mage char at the time, he had a multi and he made a bot that successfully completed most bot checks.

overcome the botcheck? oh my, he must be very good programmer. I didn't think it was even possible

Has nothing to do with programming skills. Bot checks in the early days of CB1 weren't difficult at all to overcome. I recall someone defeating them by simply turning images off in their browser.

captchas (the bot checks) are quite easy to defeat if they don't have several things,

Variable word length, big dictionary, skewed letters, overlapping and so on.

If someone can beat the current bot checks then, as I have said before, I want to hire you ;)

Brandon, these weren't old style bot checks, they were the current bot checks

octonar and wizzrobe both names taken from the Zelda series of games

Octonar was the octopus thing that spit rocks, right? Always hated the blue ones...

i remember him vaguely, but just for his tourney success.

badash beat the bot checks. J was impressed iirc. dunno if they were improved since then. they look the same to me, but i'm no programmer, obviously.

the octorocks were the rock throwing beasts yes, the blue ones were a bit of a pain but nothing too much to worry.

Badash beat them too, Octonar was the one who caught Badash, IIRC

Octonar or Safariman were 1 player in The Netherlands that used lots of IP addresses to cover their existence up

he made use of a bot that allowed him to fight without clicking, only having to enter the bot checks from time to time. He even found out about some other player abusing an exploit to make money from certain forging/blacksmith things

he also was fined hefty for abusing the BA exploit that cb1 had for a while, which was fixed after he was fined for it.

he explained the entire thing before finally being banned and hopefully he never came back :)

I remember his icon was a orange round shotting thing... was funny :)

Congrats to the both of you.

It is good that we went through this again...I was asking around chat to see whether anyone could remember that far back but to no avail. That was what inspired me to create this contest..=) Although Octonar (a.k.a safariman) was not the first one to beat the bot check, I remember him because I was around for when he was banned. Such a thing I thought would live in CB history as a defining moment. A tribute to human intellect...^_^
