NCB Question - Player resets (in General)

[SoM]CupofJoe [Peoples Bank of Carnage] November 6 2005 10:53 AM EST

Quick question for the community:

Should people who are reset be given the NCB?
I personally feel that the answer to this question is a solid NO.
It would truly remove the punishment factor in my opinion.
Perhaps after a specific period of time maybe, but not immediately.

What does everyone else think?

Why? We do use a reset as a form of punishment, when the value of their current character+NW (+ the message it gives to the rest of the community) is considered about the right size for whatever they did wrong. If a reset still isn't considered enough, then we always can issue a ban...

I think a fitting analogy would be when punishing children.

Do you stick them in the corner with a cookie?

It's like you have been reset but now you have a bonus.
So start over and get higher than you could've before.
Resets with a bonus don't seem much like a punishment to me, that's all I'm saying.

It appears now they lose their current character+NW and gain the message it gives to the rest of the community and receive the ability to create a new character with higher NW over less time and gain the message it gives to the rest of the community that we will forget in less than a month.

I personally can't remember who was banned two weeks ago much less a month ago. So the stigma thing in my opinion isn't really that bad.

Maybe people can remember who was banned and I'm just someone with a bad memory, but I feel I have a valid point.

That's what Public Record is for...

People always have the option to start over with the NCB. A reset does not suddenly grant you that option.

I'm really not trying to annoy and apologize if I come off that way, but if you were reset what would you do?

I would be mad for a second, shrug, and start an NCB character.

Wouldn't you?

Look up in what cases in the past people have been fined, were reset, or banned, and try to figure out why. Maybe that will enlighten you?

[SoM]CupofJoe [Peoples Bank of Carnage] November 6 2005 11:59 AM EST

That isn't what I asked.

I am well aware of the whys.
Multiple accounts, not paying debts, inappropriate language, acting like Monty.

Could you please just answer my question? What would you do if you were reset?

The player could have started the NCB prior to the reset or after - it's an option available to any non NUB char. Why fixate on the reset - they lost their NW, and will have to struggle with BA prices of the NCB with no NW to sell.

reset players have no cash or NW, usually and with the NCB they will outgrow their equipment and make them terrible at high levels and complete failures, punishment enough in my eyes for using that as an exit route.

That's two excellent points G and zoglog.

Your posts have made me change my mind on the reset

Thank you :)

when a player has started a NCB character before the reset, the NCB character is also reset, while not making the NCB duration longer (i presume).

starting with the NCB without items, unless you use a single self serving Mage is quite difficult.
