How do axbow and exbow work? (in General)

I checked my play-to-play battlelog and found something unusual. When I fought with almuric, his minion (with only 20 for str) hit me with an exbow and reduced my str to 332,889. My original str was 361,232 and there was no EC being casted.

My question is how much str or dex does an exbow or axbow drain? Is it related to the damage being dealt with or the x on the axbow or exbow? If its the latter, then everyone will just equip their axbow or exbow on their enchanters. Won't that ridiculous?

It's really a waste of time and money to equip them on enchanters. When you have 20 DX, your chances of hitting opponent tanks isn't very high. The only minions you'll be able to hit are mages, and that's obviously very useful.
The only way that they become useful on enchanters is when you combine it with haste.

ok. I think I get it. So it must either take a very high plus to hit or haste/ dex for it to be useful.

It's per X, with a percentage amount and fixed amount, as per the Wiki Info.

It should be noted that they have to cause at at least some damage for the stat drain to work, so they're not really effective on 20 Str minions.

That would work fine if your X and bolts were big enough, and you hit low armoured targets.

Having a very large + can off set a 20 Dex, but Ideally you want to hit more than once per round.

also they won't lower the stats when they are already below 0
