ColDoink has a very similar IP to Tawl - ColDoink (who is banned) appears to have transfered a heap of stuff to Butters Almighty who has in turn passed these items on to Tawl. My first thoughts were Tawl and ColDoink were multi's who have been helped by Butters Almighty to transfer stuff between themselves.

What makes this strange however is that ColDoink was banned on October 10 and therefore his last log on was on October 10 but these transfers happened on October 15. There may be a perfectly reasonable explanation for this strangeness but I can't work it out.

Could an admin or someone please explain to me what's going on here?

bartjan November 10 2005 5:36 PM EST

I can't fully explain it, but the character transfer log has something to do with it.

However, I did stumble over a multi made by ColDoink: Lord Doink, which is now also banned.

When you transfer a character, the transfer logs get all bollocksed up. The logs remember the character name, but not the Player name. So, for instance, I had a charater that I transferred to Rommel. First, however, I offloaded all the cash onto myself. So, orignally the logs showed:

NightStrike(Snaffa) -> Cash -> NightStrike(TempGuy)

Then, after I sent the character over, the logs changed to read:

Rommel(Snaff) -> Cash -> NightStrike(TempGuy)

It makes things look very unreal.

Ok I decided to do a little more digging on this one. Looking through the character transfer logs I came across this one

hupla ColDoink prodigy October 25 2005 7:17 PM EDT

So hupla transfered his character prodigy to ColDoink on October 25 which is interesting considering ColDoink was banned at this stage - seems like a waste of a character.

So anyway, this means those transfers that appear to be coming from coldoink are coming from hupla. Add to the transfers above these two:

hupla (fission) 68.238.108.243 Butters Almighty (butters) An Ice Familiar ($716879) October 15 2005 11:10 PM EDT
hupla (fission) 68.238.108.243 Butters Almighty (butters) $2000 October 15 2005 11:10 PM EDT

So hupla transfered a whole bunch of stuff to butters almighty who in turn transfered the stuff to Tawl on the very day that Tawl joined Carnage Blender.

So my theory is that Tawl and hupla are multi's:
1) They have very similar IP's
2) The suspicious activity as mentioned above
3) They have very similar emails - prodigy54@gmail.com and supersanta54@yahoo.com

chappy [Soup Ream] November 12 2005 1:58 PM EST

anyone looked into this???

Tawl and Butters Almighty have had the same IP before on the same day ....

Special J November 12 2005 2:10 PM EST

bart looked at it

when a character is transfered ALL transfers that character did prior become the transfers of the new owner, but show the old IP.

bartjan November 12 2005 2:17 PM EST

What I said implied that I looked at it...
All I did say I couldn't fully explain it ;)

Derek November 12 2005 8:34 PM EST

I realise this, but it looks fairly clear that Tawl and hupla are multis as I explained above.....

Special J November 13 2005 3:26 AM EST

Derek if it was fairly clear we would have already acted on it. So, no, it is not fairly clear.

Derek November 13 2005 5:05 AM EST

Well if similar IP's, email addresses and suspicious transfers isn't enough then fair enough :)

AdminShade November 13 2005 8:39 AM EST

those transfers look suspicious because of the character transfer, why don't you get it?

Derek November 13 2005 5:10 PM EST

Ok I'll try this one more time, please read this carefully -

I understand that once a character is transfered to another person all previous transfers look like they have come from the new owner of the character but the IP will not change. Hupla transfered his character prodigy to ColDoink on October 25.

This means transfers before October 25 made through the character prodigy (who is owned by hupla at this time) look like they have come from ColDoink but were actually made by hupla.

Anyway regardless of this hupla's IP is similar to Tawl's, they are probably off the same ISP, just look at transfers from other characters that hupla had that were not transfered, very similar to Tawl's IP.

Secondly there IS suspicious transfers going on here - hupla (the transfers show up as from coldoink but remember they are before October 25 so are actually from hupla) has transfered a whole lot of gear that has found its way to Tawl through Butters Almighty on the very day that Tawl joins Carnage Blender. What other explanations are there for this? He bought them for USD? Not likely on your first day and there is no FS/WTB or Public Record deals. He got them as a newbie gift? That's a fairly expensive gift probably worth at least a million.

If that wasn't enough evidence check out the email addresses of Tawl and hupla, they are both a name followed by the numbers 54. Ending an address in 54 isn't exactly a common thing to do, I bet these two addresses are the only two that end in 54 in the whole game. What are the chances of this happening by coincidence? But wait,Tawl's email address looks even more familiar, prodigy 54, where have I heard the name prodigy before? That's right, it was the name of hupla's character that he transfered to coldoink!!

So in conclusion
1) Similar IP's
2) Suspicious Transfers
3) Similar Email Addresses

Derek December 5 2005 9:35 PM EST

Not that it really matters anymore now that Tawl has sold several million for USD but could I get an explanation from an admin as to why hupla and Tawl are not multis? Am I missing something here as I'm still convinced these two are multis.

Please don't give me the standard "character transfers make the transfer log look suspicious" as it took me quite a while to figure out how character transfers affect the transfer logs and I feel I unscrambled things quite well in my post above.

Hyrule Castle [Defy] December 5 2005 9:40 PM EST

maybe they are friends, i almost got banned for multying, cause when we were at eachothers house, we all did our cb accounts quickly, and kept xferin the same tat between us, so that we could level quicker...... not saying im trying to defend him, but... it is a possiblity

Special J December 5 2005 10:25 PM EST

Derek, while we encourage pointing out people who might be a multi, we discourage arguing with us about the outcome.

Move on.

Derek December 6 2005 12:00 AM EST

Yes I understand, this will be my last post on the matter.

I did put quite a bit of time into this, and I'd just like to know the reason this is not considered a multi - I thought I'd gathered a pretty compelling case that's all.

AdminShade December 6 2005 2:52 AM EST

But perhaps admins just don't want to tell you all their secrets, for safety reasons ;)
