Suggestion on new ranged item: catapult (in General)

I've always wished my tank could hit multiple targets in ranged or melee (the mage overpowered thread made me think of this). So why not a catapult ranged weapon? Only 1 per team, damage depends on strength, etc, like other ranged weapons, only fires first round of ranged, and you buy boulders at the store?

So if those tanks keep complaining about only taking one target down at a time, they can use the catapult (which then gets abandoned as the targets close in for melee battle).

The problem with catapults is that they're hard to aim, and slow to load. But they do big damage against possibly multiple opponents.

To make it work, it would have a much lower chance of hitting opponents, and fire maybe only once or twice in ranged, with no chance of double or triple hits.

The fun thing about catapults is the fact that all sorts of things can be used as ammo: boulders, flaming oil/tar, severed heads, cows, etc.

Pitche la vache!

it fires bundles of a sling ammo...whole bundles...think exp shot bundles of like 5000
...ok so maybe just fire off one volley of maybe 5 pebbles/shot hitting each person at least once, extra shots hitting random minions. Damage based entirely on the NW of the weapon and ammo, no STR modifier, no dex, no ToA +. And how about a massive damage threshhold...with falling prone or being knocked unconcious being the results.

I don't want mis-matched damage. Maybe equal to 1st 2 ranged rounds of FB. And it could miss everyone due to the nature of the device - hard to aim & prep. But may be worthwhile combined with DM to deal with FF DM teams.

...

I've got to say, I think this is a pretty cool idea.

Big damage, one hit only in ranged (although I think firing in the 2nd ranged round rather than 1st would both make more sense and be more balanced) and hitting multiple targets at once.

For the sake of adding depth to strategy, I'd say no penalties to a tank weilding this thing, although massive penalties to DD. Also ammo should be somewhat costly.

Just my opinion, but cool idea anyway :)

Your likely right chuckles, but I'd like to see this as an enchanter weapon, or something for a wall to do. Requiring no STR or DEX, but a restriction on DD spells (you have to be preparing your spell, no time to fire).

Yeah, I have always loved the idea of a tank ranged weapon that attacked all. I like how you explained it too.

Another way it could perhaps be implemented is say have it be similar to a slightly uber-staff-sling. High upgrade costs, low base damage, but attack vs all would still be great. And it would finally mean that tanks could try going with DM for once. Although on second thought, I highly doubt Jon would give it the focusing kill-power that FB has. But it would still be nice.

If it is a ranged weapon then all you would need to do is make the + very expensive compared to all the other ranged weapons. The only problem I see with it is the calculation of how many times it would hit each minion, would it need to do it for each seperate minion or use the minion with the highest dodging capability?
