I wouldn't know ^ ^ I always looked up items in stats....
the items in this game have largely been based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and it's companion histories apendexes, though lots of stuff is just normal, and a one item I know of was based on the book the Princess Bride...for about 12 minutes.

The game code is written in TCL (with user management and other functions from the OpenACS toolkit), and runs under the AOLServer web server, which despite the name is quite a good piece of software. The data is stored in a PostgreSQL database.
