Single mob mage help (in General)

curudan January 5 2006 11:23 PM EST

I'm trying a single team mage and i'm following grants stategy
But i'm dying in about half the battles i fight.

I'm trying to save for a lesser ToE, but i heard something about changes made to this tattoo, so i'm wondering if this is still a good idea?

Oh and if my confusion or my Char doesnt give it away: I am a total n00b, but remember we n00b's have feelings too...

AdminJonathan January 5 2006 11:29 PM EST

first of all, ditch the whip.

QBPixel Sage January 5 2006 11:29 PM EST

Grant's strategy is now becoming obsolete. TOE just turned into a team tattoo, and magic damage at your level is half what it used to be. Also, if you have magic, don't have weapons equipped unless you're trying something clever ;)

[T]Vestax January 5 2006 11:30 PM EST

Take off the whip and untrain that DX. DX is good for only 2 things, attacking with a weapon (which you won't be doing since your minion casts FB all the time with it trained) and for dodging attacks. But if you want to dodge attacks, the same amount of xp put into the new and improved Evasion is twice as effective.

However, most would agree that all you need to do is put all the xp from DX and pour it into FB and HP. Mages don't need to do anything else other then nuke the other team into oblivion and take a hit or two.

Just sent you a LFF - see if that helps.

Sell the whip, it does nothing for you.
Unlearn your DX, it does nothing for you.
Train about 1/2 HP, 1/2 FB, and later learn AMF or DM.

So is it still possible to do a single mob team with a mage?

Maelstrom January 5 2006 11:44 PM EST

mob?

Maelstrom January 5 2006 11:46 PM EST

Oh, and buy yourself some cheap clothes (LB, LG, Cab) until you can afford some rare armour.

curudan January 5 2006 11:52 PM EST

"mob?"
well so sue me i said i was a n00b

but is it still possible for a single "thingy" team?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 5 2006 11:59 PM EST

yes, single mages work splendidly, I used 1/3 HP 1/3 FB 1/3 DM for a long while (300-400k mpr) with nothing equpped but an RoE and some leather, I then dumped all the XP I had into FB and worked towards getting the ratio of HP to 1/4 of my FB, with a trinket (60k) DM to lower enchanter HP.

There are a dozen ways to make this strat better, I just went he cheapest easiest route.

maulaxe January 6 2006 12:00 AM EST

perhaps you mean "minion"

don't worry, you're off to a good start, reading the wiki is quite helpful.

live and learn. well, learn in any case. too much fightin' going on.

curudan January 6 2006 12:04 AM EST

Oh and should i stick with my FF or is there a better one for single minion teams?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 6 2006 12:35 AM EST

FF on a second minion with DM and AS trained seem to be the most popular FF strat, but it's not unheard of, and would be better than without it. I would recomend checking out some of the larger FF's and the strats they are being used with.

AdminShade January 6 2006 6:22 AM EST

Single Minion Mage Character

a lesser ToE (Tattoo of Endurance) will certainly help you.

Grant January 6 2006 10:27 AM EST

Given the repeated nerfings of FB, it's hard to make a good FB team anymore. I would recommend a RBF now, so you can hunt the other fools who are trying. What I'm running now is a 3/8 HP 3/8 FB 1/4 AMF, and I can kill much higher FB teams.

This isn't a general strategy any more, just something to get good rewards so you can buy equipment for your master plan (which, these days, must involve tanks).

Unfortunately a lesser RBF does *not* work for this strategy.

curudan January 7 2006 12:14 AM EST

Forgive me if i distinguish myself as a newbie once again, but whats a rbf?

[YG]Wildthing January 7 2006 12:21 AM EST

Rune of Balrog Flame

curudan January 7 2006 12:53 AM EST

Soooo then i guess i'm gonna switch to a two minion team. Is wilkwolfs stategy good for that? Oh and is it possible to switch minions around, because my FB mage is in front but i think the enchanter is supposed to be there. And if i can't i guess i will just have to turn my FB mage into a enchanter.

maulaxe January 7 2006 1:06 AM EST

on the train page, you can move minions around. on the very bottom left of each minion's train box, click on "move left"

curudan January 7 2006 1:09 AM EST

Okay but should i change my FB mage into an enchanter and make a new mage or just make a new enchanter?

AdminQBnovice [Cult of the Valaraukar] January 7 2006 1:28 AM EST

if you were going to do two minons you would want to hire a new enchanter now and continue to up your mages DD spell while upping AS on the enchanter.
Once you get the FF, put that on the enchanter and armor up your mage (with proper gear).

curudan January 7 2006 1:31 AM EST

Enchanter in front right?

Halcyon January 7 2006 6:45 AM EST

Enchanters ALWAYS in front. All they need to do is cast, then take hits. They serve no combat purpose, other than a meat shield.
