Tired of seeing this in New Players (in General)

Arguements over PG rating of the chat room.

How hard would it be to just change the rating to General (G) which is actually what it is.

There there is NO room for arguement.

I always liked the "If you wouldn't say it in front of a five year old and your Grandmother"

I think only people from the USA would understand what 'G' means. From outside the US they at least have some chance of ever heard of 'PG' (most likely from a sticker on a CD - an effective method of increasing sales).

But then at least G can be explained but not argued.

North American will know G

Explained, yes. And heading into that second objection, it's not an argument, it's a /kick. Pretty simple. :)

If people are tired of hearing about a topic then it has been going on far too long and there is an extremely simple fix to the issue. I do not know if this post was made after I pointed out to Shade, in chat, that a "PG" rating is misleading when taken literal and seeing that CB uses a term coined by society, there is no room for it to be taken anything but literal.

If you fail to understand my point, simply google movie ratings and see for yourself what a PG rating allows and disallows. The problem I was attempting to point out, not argue, was that as new players are introduced into the community you are leaving room for interpretation by the individual.

I do realize that the FAQ does point out that the PG rating is not a literal rating, but there are many people out there far more stubborn and intelligent than myself that will continually point out the lack of attention to detail. And if there is one thing I admire about this game it is the attention to detail.

I apologize for the double post, but I would also like to point out that I would not be posting here at all if not for the large number of PM's I started getting from people agreeing with what I was saying in chat, after I made my initial point to Shade.

Timberwolf January 8 2006 1:54 PM EST

Actually, there's an even easier fix.
When asked by a chat op to 'watch your language' or something similar, do it. There's no need to argue the semantics of a word, or its meaning in different countries. I know for a fact the currnet Ops span several countries, but we all seem to have similar tastes as to what is acceptable in chat, and what isn't.
This isn't about ChatOps going on power trips, it's about enforcing rules Jonathan set forward for the entire community.
If you can't play the game abiding by the rules, your 'life' here will be a short lived one anyway.

Conquest January 8 2006 2:05 PM EST

Timber, I never cursed or used foul language. I think the "PG" rating is a great thing. I still do not understand why everyone assumes this is an arguement based off of the merit of the "PG" rating. Nobody is saying that cursing and general immaturity should be allowed. People do like to see a system of checks and balances and a system that works. While it is an extremely minor flaw in the system, it is still a flaw. That is why I started recieving PM's from various people, agreeing with me, not because they thought the "PG" rating was unjustified. I have been a member of far too many online "communities" where immaturity ran rampant and it really destroys it in general. These posts are not being made in disagreement. So please do not respond to me in hostility.

AdminShade January 8 2006 2:09 PM EST

Why don't people get that the PG might be confusing for some people, but that CB has a different 'rule system'

if we say PG! it means mind your language, this should be clear for everyone.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 8 2006 2:10 PM EST

I for one think Jon should have left out the bit about it not being literal because then we would have no problems with new players after a warning (if in fact they have any clue what PG means).
Fair enough some of their conversations would end up like a Disney movie but we would all be in pure satisfaction of no more new players ranting and raving at why they were kicked.
On the other hand maybe the built up testosterone in some of these kids prevents them from thinking sensibly :P.

Ok, I apologize for what I started here. I was under a false impression that this was a community and not a tyranny. Obviously this is not the place to point out ways to improve the experience for everyone. It has now become apparent that this is a closed community that is not welcome to suggestion.

However, after asking myself why everyone is unwilling to hear suggestion, I realize if these commonly argued topics were fixed there would be no "internet gratification" gained from telling someone off and threatening to kick them if they do not comply. It is a shame too, this community has a great deal of potential, above and beyond what it already has.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 8 2006 2:43 PM EST

The PG rule does not need changing that is why suggestions relating to it will likely be flamed my most of the community.
You can make suggestions if you like regarding actual gameplay and they are likely to be heard by more people but on aspects such as this it is best to go with the majority and not argue a rather unimportant point.

AdminShade January 8 2006 2:51 PM EST

You can make any suggestion you want in this game and community, but some things will be frowned upon.

Instead of going offensive about the topic, let each other just say their own visions about it and only give criticism when needed.

CB isn't a tyranny, and never will.

If we tell you to stop, you stop. Otherwise we will remove you from the room and not bother argueing about it.
