CB Lottery, Your views and opinion. (in General)

Hi everyone, I have been thinking about hosting a CB lottery game, for you folks to gamble away your hard earned cash.
This would be based on the UK National Lottery, I myself would be gaining nothing from this, nor is this a scam. I wish to get peoples opinions and views on this idea.
Flaming this post is strictly forbidden. :P

It has been done in the past, raffles that is. As long as you do not make a profit, I think people might be interested. Just as long as it is not like 100 tickets at 100k each and the winner gets 50k. Let the winner get all the profit and it might work.

Definatly would bring interest ... esp in us Americans .. money for nothing, thats the way we do it :)

yeah and the best way to execute it would be to charge a very small entrance fee. That would attract me at least.

lottery is good. you can do something like a ticket for 10k.then have deals like, get 7 tickets for 50k.and the winner gets the pot or is split among 1st,2nd,3rd etc. accordingly

how about 100k a ticket, winner takes all :)

THAT would be one lucky winner :D I would put 100k in for that pot...

There are two ways to run such a thing.

  1. In the contests forum. In which case you cannot make a profit.
  2. In the fs/wtb forum. In which case you can (try to) make a profit.

In either case you need to make sure that the numbers chosen are really random and that nobody can know them in advance. Thinking up some numbers and telling an admin has worked in the past, but is open to abuse or, at least, mistrust, as players have no way to know who else you might have told. The only way I know to make number selection completely above board is to chose something that cannot be determined in advance and that everyone else can look up to verify the winning number(s).
Some examples of this are state-run lotteries, prices of publicly-traded commodities, and sports scores.

Carefully work out all the rules in advance (and try to think of all the ways someone could follow the letter of the rules while going against the intent). If you try to change any of the rules once the game has started people will lose faith in you and will not play. (In the worst case, they will accuse you of scamming which could get you reset).
Think about

You'll need a very high jackpot and/or give away great items if you want to interest more than a couple of people. Also, expect flamewars to erupt in your threads as some players try to convince everyone else that your game is stupid and unfair. Be prepared to clearly explain why your game is fair and have numbers to back it up. (don't be afraid to ask for help from admins if some players become abusive)

You can see some previous attempts at running lotteries here. Personally, I have no problem with you running a lotto and wish you the best of luck with it.

Okay i have given this some thought.
If i do go ahead with this, I will put the thread under contests, So i cannot scam or make a profit.

I was thinking about getting the numbers from the United Kingdom National lottery Draw on saturday at 8pm. So yes, they would be randomly picked and no one will know the numbers in advance. You can find the lottery numbers on this website: http://www.national-lottery.co.uk/player/p/home/home.do
I will need an admin to confirm theses.

As for rules i have noted down some;
Cost per ticket - 1500cb$ What do you think?
No limit on how many times one can enter.
How to play; You pick Six numbers between 1 to 49 - E.G. 32, 22, 12, 3, 1, 45 pretty simple.
To win one would need to match 3, 4, 5 or 6 numbers to win a certain prize.
The prize would be like 1mil out of my pocket, set like;
Main pot; 1,000,000
Jackpot; 50% which is 500k, Will Differ.
Matching 3 numbers would win 3% of the Main Pot
" 4 " " win 7.5% of the Main Pot
" 5 " " Win 14% of the Main Pot
" 5 numbers + bonus ball number, You'd win 25%
Matching 6 numbers would get you the entire jackpot. 50%

The reason that it's set % of the Pot, Is so that as the money in the Main Pot increase the winnings increase, Main Pot could never be won, This is because i hope to keep the game running for more than one week.
If more than one person won, They would receive The money depending on how many numbers they get. If two or more win the Jack pot, The Jack pot will be split between them all.
If no one was to win the money would be carried over to the next week game.
What cut i plan to take? I not sure i understand, I will be taking no money from it.
If i was to ever shut it down i would most likely send the money to an admin so that they can give it away with their own contests.
If nobody ever won, I would make the game free for a while?

Youch! Picking six numbers from 1 to 49? I don't think you have a large enough potential player base to justify a six number lottery draw. The odds are something like 13 million to one against for hitting all six. With the limited number of players here, you may go YEARS without a winner! That may discourage people from playing.

How about four numbers from one to 20? I dont' know the exact odds but it's a lot less than six out of 49. The increased chances of hitting may hold player interest longer.

I like it but I have a suggestion why not have the winning be rare items and not cash that would be interesting. (If this has already been suggested then just ignore this message.)
