Discussion: Fighting / Forging (in General)

Doom Lit Sky January 21 2006 5:39 AM EST

As a new player I've read most of the FAQs, and a lot of the wiki. I haven't entered the blacksmith once though. I'm under the impression forging isn't worth the BA cost until higher levels.

So if this is a dumb idea, please forgive my in-experience, as I'm only trying to see what others think of this...

I noticed that people who forge, don't grow, because they are spending BA on the forge.

Maybe fighting could grant extra BA, that can only be used in the forge. Not a serious amount of course, but it would promote char growth overall. Maybe like 10 FBA (Forge BA) per 160 Ba spent?

I was just thinking of this because as an up and coming player, I would like to dabble in forging, but I don't want to stop growing.

This way, I could fight, and slowly increase my items.

If this has been suggested before I'm sorry. Maybe someone could run numbers and find a formula that could make this idea solid.

Thanks

~DLS

Personally spend your entire NUB as a FB single mage and make massive money. Once you lose your NUB you will not receive nearly the rewards you do now. Either save the money you receive from winning to buy stuff for a NCB later on or continue to purchase the necessary things for a single mage like AG's, DB's, High tattoo that sort of stuff. If you want anything forged consider either using the Blacksmith to do it for you at full price, or hiring another player to do it for you at 70% the Blacksmith price. Don't waste your NUB!!! You only get one chance at it.

Draco has done nothing to reply to your questions and suggestion so I'll give an opinion with some relevance.
First of all, although forgers do not grow they make substantial money from their trade which at the right levels is higher than rewards from fighting (assuming with a normal non-NUB character). The increased income allows them to then advance their equipment above those who have fought.
The "rock, paper, scissors" game being that you either race through MPR or gain big NW before getting the much higher MPR through buying a character when someone sells out.
The other thing is that some people like to forge but don't want to fight and if we were to give fighters free BA for the forge what would be the point for forgers? We may as well banish people using the forge just like rares were removed from store.

I see you're point. I just figured if it was a small % that added up over time, it would be cool. Like a reward for hard fighting. Not big enough to impact the economy, but big enough that eventually a hard fighter can smile.

The problem is that there is a good balance already and you choose one or the other to do in the short-run and even 10 extra BA to forge with would distort proportion.
The other problem is that the system is used to standard BA and how it will be made to be different from standard BA so that it cannot be used for extra fights.

Yeah, I guess not such a hot idea, but an idea none the less. I guess I didn't fully understand that it is either forge, or don't forge. :S I personally think that it shouldn't have to be this way.

DLS: forging is a choice, if you want to forge you can't fight effectively.

Forging however grants you more money per BA used than fighting, but you don't get experience for it.

Forging recently already had gotten 2 boosts so boosting it another time would be too much imo.

what was the second one?

i only know of the 15% BS cost

first one was that efficiency was raised a bit, second one was that econ clans get a nice reduced fee.
