Does it have to be so stiff? (in General)

Doom Lit Sky January 26 2006 2:36 PM EST

You may fight again when that time has elapsed, or you may continue immediately after paying a fine of $25,297. Click here to pay $25,297 and continue fighting.

I only missed one, and it was insanely hard to read. Does it really have to be such a stiff fine? Maybe less of a fine for people in Gondor?

I don't even understand why botchecks are the way they are. I get one every 3rd fight. It's really taking away from the game, I often spend more time doing botchecks then actually fighting. I mean Geez, if I wanted to spend all my time reading messed up words, I would just sign up to hotmail over and over again.

Although I understand they are needed, does there really have to be so many, so often? And does the fine REALLY need to be 1 hours or 'X Large' amount of cash?

Really taking away from the gameplay.

the fines are the same amount you'd pay for that BA, so yeah it's high.
You should never get a fine for missing one, you must have mistakenly hit enter twice in that case (I'm sure an admin will tell you what happned).

They don't come up every three fights, even as an exageration that statement is a little much. Slow down first of all, you have two minutes to answer.

Zoglog[T] [big bucks] January 26 2006 2:48 PM EST

I am currently only getting on average about 5 every set of ba and have been for months, sometimes get a whole set without a single one.
There have been some complaints but unless someone has something wrong with their eyesight I don't see how they are that difficult to get even after 10 seconds of careful looking, plus you should be getting more used to them.

The fines are high, and needed. They should make you pay attention to them and enter them correctly.

If you said you missed only 1, then you most likely missed another one as well...

Back in the old days, your character would be reset instead ;)
I guess CB softened up a lot over the years...

Anyway, you made 2 mistakes:

you answered tea instead of tear and then tear instead of lion...

At least we now have the option to pay the fine unlike before where you just had to wait. Better luck next time.

As far as I know there is a 5% chance of getting a bot check each fight. This info is from CB1... long time ago, but I don't remember a change log post saying it had been changed.

Maelstrom January 26 2006 4:44 PM EST

It's not that simple. For instance, there seems to be a greater chance of getting a botcheck if you try to fight unconscious opponents, or if you fight quickly.

QBsutekh137 January 26 2006 5:05 PM EST

Mael, are you sure? Or is this a matter of selective perception?

The only "rule" I have ever seen is that I never get two botchecks in a row. But I think I have had check, no check, check. So, other than a no-repeat rule, I think everything else is the randomizer.

Also, what do you mean with unconscious opponents? If anything, I seem to get _fewer_ checks when I am waiting on someone with an asterisk.

Finally, I cannot imagine Jon placing programming in to actually measure time between battles for everyone. Seems like a lot of work for...nothing? If I had a bot, I guarantee you I would make him fight slow so as not to look like a machine.

Maelstrom January 26 2006 5:26 PM EST

No, I'm not sure of that ;)

RedWolf January 26 2006 5:37 PM EST

i only get about 2 or 3 botchecks every 160 ba, i dont know is it just me?

Stephen January 26 2006 6:12 PM EST

"Does it have to be so stiff?"

With that title I was sure this was one of GL's threads!

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 26 2006 7:05 PM EST

O_O Huh what?

First tulwars and beer, now this, I'm getting around! ;)

Sute, I've never done any analysis, but I agree with Mael, I always seem to get more bot checks when I've tried to fight an unconcious opponent. :/ But I'm probably just noticing them more!

Maelstrom January 26 2006 7:13 PM EST

Actually, I'll revise my comment. I seem to get more botchecks when I try to fight, but all of my opponents are unconscious.

And GL, did you not have a thread regarding monogamy vs. technology? :p

Undertow January 26 2006 9:40 PM EST

I have SEEN Jon say that you get a more frequant number of botchecks when fighting the same opponent more often (ie: farming, or having a smaller fight list.).

QBJohnnywas January 27 2006 4:59 AM EST

I'm glad someone else posted the GL comment...I was thinking the same...;)

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 27 2006 7:29 AM EST

O_O

As a Gentleman, all I have to keep stiff is an upper lip.

AdminQBGentlemanLoser [{END}] January 27 2006 9:27 AM EST

*grumble* That forge dwarf has loose lips... *grumble*
