happy cheating?

{CB1ate}aupStar January 29 2006 8:00 PM EST

jon does it....=) so technically it's not...so there! xp

QBRanger January 29 2006 8:03 PM EST

First,

With the autobidding from Central Bank, this "sniping" will not really happen as you think.

Second,

"e-mail me the program."-Was this the main reason camping was removed?
People using programs to "cheat" at camping.

Third,

Just posting that you want to "cheat" is not a good thing.

These are my thoughts and mine alone.

PirateKing January 29 2006 8:09 PM EST

PK's interpretation of the OP's desires:

1. I want to buy rare items from the auction but am too lazy to put any effort into it. Someone write me a cheating program.

2. I am including this because I have no intention of paying for the cheat program.... I will just claim I am not satisfied and withold payment regardless of how satisfied I actually am.

3. Get to work!

Prize:

1. Base Corn.. unless I invoke rule 2, as noted above.

2. An extra 100k per day.... unless I invoke rule 2.

In response to PirateKing:

1. I bid high for my rare items and then go to bed. Wake up the next morning to find that it's been outbid at the last moment by none other then the central bank. This has happened to be around 8 times and has motivated me to make this contest.

2. If you look back at my past contests (I've made around 20 or so) I've payed the people often in generous amounts for taking part in them every single time! I will not withhold payment if the program works on my computer and and does everything I set out in the rules. I am an honorable man and I hold true to my word!

Special J January 29 2006 8:34 PM EST

My response,

Good going aup, not a bright move.

No sympathy. You want something from the auction badly enough, then you make the effort to get it. Someone(even Central Bank) outbids you.... them's the breaks.

You talk about how honorable you are in the same paragraph that you reference a cheat program you want made for you..... scuze me while turn off my irony alarm.

Ox [StephenMelinda Gates Fund] January 29 2006 8:47 PM EST

It looks more like he's trying to make a statement. A poor one at that.

Maelstrom January 29 2006 9:17 PM EST

If I remember correctly, in the last days of camping, when cheating was rampant, someone made a similar contest asking someone to make a program, or teach them how to compete with the cheaters. It was mainly a protest sort of thing, and very shortly after Jon put an end to camping.

Jon, maybe this is a signal that your autobidding isn't appreciated? Could it be modified in some way, at the very least so that the autobids are not made in the last minute?

{CB1ate}aupStar January 29 2006 9:17 PM EST

No sympathy. You want something from the auction badly enough, then you make the effort to get it. Someone (even Central Bank) outbids you.... them's the breaks.

Are you sympathising with the bot that outbid me? 'cause if it was a real person I'd say good on ya mate! You made an effort to outbid my high bid for that cheap item...=)

You talk about how honorable you are in the same paragraph that you reference a cheat program you want made for you..... scuze me while turn off my irony alarm.

My circumstance: I'd need to stay up until 5am to win that bid. Hence I bid a high amount and hope no one outbids me. 5mins before the auction ends: You have been outbid in an auction for An Elven Long Sword [80x30] (+11) -- http://cb2.carnageblender.com/gc/view-one.tcl?classified_ad_id=47351 Sometimes you need to fight fire with fire! No way I can contend with the central bank bot without a bot of my own...=) I feel I've been how you say CHEATED out of that item by the central bank(and not for the first time!). I mean if the Central bank bid on items say 50% of the way through the auctions or even 75% of the way through the auctions I would cancel this contest and go back to trying to do what I’ve been trying to do the past few weeks! Winning auctions that's what! ^_^

PirateKing January 29 2006 9:29 PM EST

Spin it any way you want, aup. Doesn't change that you are asking for someone to write you a program which will give you a huge advantage over other players, and using the guise of "beating the central bank autobid" as cover.

I don't give a whit what your circumstances are. Asking for a cheat program is not better than being a cheat in my eyes.

{CB1ate}aupStar January 29 2006 9:42 PM EST

lol, spin. Of course you did nothing of the sort.

Just think for a second whether I'm the only person frustrated at this..Sooner or later people will use what the central bank does as an excuse to make their own program to do the same thing. Remove the incentive and you'll remove the frustration. There are a lot of talented programmers in this community. I've seen that first hand. It shouldn't be difficult to make such a simple program; it's only a matter of time.

Take a look at Maelstorm's post. It may enlighten you as to what I'm trying to do here. I've never cheated before and I'm not about to start anytime soon...=)

QBRanger January 29 2006 9:52 PM EST

Aupstar,

You are certainly not the first person upset at the central bidding problems/autobidding.

There have been numerous posts about it.

Many have asked Jon to change it and it is up to him alone to do something positive about this horrible thing.

But you are the first to suggest using a Cheat to try to solve the problem. In my opinion, that is completely wrong. As you know, and everyone knows, this is a Jonocracy and cheat programs are illegal.

PirateKing January 29 2006 9:52 PM EST

"I've never cheated before and I'm not about to start anytime soon..."

Nice tapdance, Bojangles. Of course you never intended to cheat. You were merely highlighting what you think is an unacceptable situation; namely the Cental Bank auto bidding. And I suppose you never intended to use any cheat programs that happened to be sent to you because of your "contest" either, huh?

{CB1ate}aupStar January 29 2006 9:54 PM EST

exactly! =)

PirateKing January 29 2006 9:58 PM EST

So you were offering a Cornuthaum for a program you had no intention of using?

Yeah.... riiiight.

QBRanger January 29 2006 9:59 PM EST

Everyone,

This thread is more than dead now.

It is up to the admins and Jon if any further action is needed.

{CB1ate}aupStar January 29 2006 9:59 PM EST

Are you having trouble understanding? o_O If so e-mail me and I'll see what I can do for you...=)

Stephen January 29 2006 10:30 PM EST

Just let him know who you want taken out...

bartjan January 30 2006 1:00 AM EST

"I bid high for my rare items and then go to bed"

If Central Bank outbids you, then you did not bid high. CB only bids up to the market value of the item, so it's very predictable if you can expect a CB bid. Use this information and you'll sleep a lot better ;)
